I'd love to bring the 40, but I doubt it'll be done by then. If I CAN make it, I guess I'll have to settle for heated seats and a heater that works. Weeeeaaaaak.

Hope this isn't a thread jack but what is the lowest psi you can run on a stock, non-beadlock wheel? I'm in an 80 on 285/75/16 with the OEM wheels. Would love to try and make this run but am afraid of getting stuck. (Happened once on Kingston Peak in a wicked drift on the shelf road.)

Should be plenty of support there to help you get unstuck.

I would suggest no lower than 15psi, and would probably stop at 17. It's possible to get a bit more traction going lower, but it's not worth the additional potential sidewall damage, IMO... remember there's pokey things down under that snow. Getting under 20 is going to get you pretty squishy as it is, staying towards the back should make sure you "make it" more often than not, and above all else make sure you've got solid recovery points front and back.

A great thing to do while airing down is just hook up a strap in back, put a shackle in the other side, then toss it inside through the hatch. That way should you need a tug in reverse, or should the guy behind you need a tug, you're already ready.

Thanks, and sorry for another noob thread jack. I have stock bumpers and only have the tiedown points on the frame and a receiver hitch with a D-shackle plug. Is this adequate? Hopefully this spring I can weld up some "proper" recovery points to the frame. I'd love to upgrade bumpers but that's too spendy for me right now.

Yes you will be great. Your best recovery point is the receiver hitch, in fact you don't even need that shackle plug you can just slip the receiver pin through the loop on the strap- that's what I use whenever possible. In front, those loop things should be good, take a peek at them to make sure they don't look too rusty as yes, we had one of those break on a run last year. Definitely don't want to jolt the truck when using those.

When you upgrade, look for the URB- universal recovery bracket. I think Jonesy's sells them? they have a banner here... http://www.jonesysoffroad.com/toyota-land-cruiser-urbs/

or just get a Slee bumper :D. Either way it's worth upgrading your front points at some point, then you'll be ready for anything. And don't sweat the hijack! 4 other people probably had the same question, but were too shy to ask. this is why we have this forum.

There are always plenty of veterans on this run so you can be positioned between those. As far as tire pressure I have 285 KM2's and I run as low as 10-12 psi and never had any issues. This is great run to learn what your truck will do in the snow. And by the way if you don't get stuck your not trying hard enough. Have fun I know I will.:)

So work got canceled on Thursday. And I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist the temptation to go do a little pre-run recon in the fresh snow.

Got a couple pictures.

Most of the way was nice with good traction in the fresh snow. But there were a few slick spots that were total ice. One in particular coming up to the big meadow. But with a little finagling I made it up ok. I didn't go past the big meadow. But somebody had already gone further up the trail early that morning.

Anyways, looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.
See you guys tomorrow. :thumb:

Looks good Travis. Thanks for the update.

I70 will be backed up pretty good Sat. morning. I suggest going up the canyon on HWY 6.

Beau Jo's called me today and said they had a administration problem with their liqueur license and may not be able to serve alcohol tomorrow. Too late it change the location though. They will supply free pitchers of soda's and tea.

I have my 4runner put back together and ready to roll. Installed new body mount bushings to replace my worn out ones and a 1\2 lift as an after thought.

The JadeRunner has been in the garage pretty much since hunting season so it's ready to get out.

I will be late. I coach kids basketball and we have a game tomorrow morning. I'll call in on 2M as I get close.

Any steering linkage issues with the .5" BL Scott? I had to add a steering spacer after doing the 1".
