The 265/75R16 is about 1" taller than the stock TRD OR size, which is 265/70R16 and exactly the same width. You will have no issue fitting that and it would work fine on stock suspension, too. I have about 2" of front lift and about 2.5" in the rear and my 32" tall tires have plenty of clearance, enough for chains to fit without rubbing. I would ideally like about another 0.5" to 1" of width on my 7" rims (a mythical 245/85R16 or 255/80R16) but I didn't want to go any taller right now, so it's not ideal. I eventually will run 255/85R16 most likely, but I'm really happy with the KO2 so far so maybe not.

I also mounted my 255/85/16 BigHorn MT on my spare TRD FJC wheel and bolted it on the front. No rubbing on the stock UCAs and seemed like ample room fore and aft, even with turning. Granted I skipped the pot hole or articulation test. I would bet that 255s would fit great with standard 2-3" lift.

I just had been there done that personally and wanted to try 285s.

I am all in now, as they are mounted up on the black TRD Trail Teams wheels.

Just been too busy at work/home to toss on and test rubbing points.

I am doing my lift but I just might do the front ARB bumper first.

Would be great if the 285s fit with new UCAs and bumper, then get lift parts together.

I think the 255/85R16 is a fantastic option and if BFG made the KO2 in them there's a good chance that's what I'd be running. But they don't, only the KM2 and I wanted good snow tires. Plus 255/85R16 doesn't leave room for chains, which is important to me. The 235/85R16 tires I mounted will.

Nice bumpers and light bars. What are they?

Well found time to mount the BFG 285/75/16s and check for rubbing..

They clear the OEM UCAs no problem and full turn either way they clear..

Driving into and out of my alley they did rub slightly on the front inner fender plastic..

I decided to leave them on for now. I think I will wait to do any trimming or heat molding until I lift it in a few weeks.

Ordered black lugs, should come next week.

I think it looks a lot better in person.

I would say, if you really want to run these on a taco, go for it, they fit fine and look great. A modest lift may be all you need to keep them from rubbing.

One thing to keep in mind is that the 3rd gen Taco sits higher in the travel than the 2nd gen, in effect giving it about a 1" lift from the factory or IOW that modest lift you're talking about.

treehugger on TW ended up going back to 265/75R16 on his 2016 because of the interference, but this was on stock suspension.

I don't know how that compares in fender clearance but relative to the frame, since the UCA, spindle, shock are unchanged it's probably not quite an apples-to-apples thing. Toyota did apparently change the LCA and the frames themselves are not identical AFAIK. Also the sheet metal is quite a bit different.

Point is what works on a 2016 & 2017 may not be true for a 2005-2015. Most people recommend at least 2" of lift, slight trimming and wheel spacers (for stock wheels) to fit a 285/75R16 on a 2nd gen.

With 285's and stock rims, there's a very good chance you'll rub your control arm more than a tolerable amount. Most folks go with aftermarket wheels on 285's to help move the tire away from the suspension. Or the other option is wheel spacers with your stock wheels. Or a different tire size: 265/75/16 and 255/85/16 both work well on stock rims.
