Have you thought about the braking system? Since converting to ABS is out, I hear a 4Runner master and going to rear disks is possible.
I have considered it but honestly it brakes pretty well! I haven’t had issues with braking thankfully but people on the road are unpredictable, love to speed and brake erratically. Might be a bridge I cross later down the road.

Selling it?

I did list it, I’ll be real honest I just have concerns about putting my kiddo in it. From a safety standpoint let’s face it they aren’t super safe! I have it listed for a pretty wild price I feel and for a reason. I don’t really want to sell but if someone showed up with 9k in hand I’d let it go so I can get something with a touch more of modern touch and safety. The key here is I DONT want to sell it but I also don’t want to risk hurting my kiddo if I got tboned or rear ended, granted we’d probably be okay since the things are built like a tank but also still just makes me nervous. Something to consider, this is my daily driver so I need something semi safe.

Selling it?

Welp two weeks was enough time to think and i better keep it. @timmbuck2 talked some sense into me and if I sold it I’d regret it. Easier to just use the RAV4 for hauling the kiddo around than it would be to find another beige 60 series!

Today and last night I tinkered a bit more with the 60, I installed the blacked out bezels and painted the grill to match, I know it’s going to make a purist wince but holy cow what a difference it made in appearance!
Last night I took the time to learn how to properly set the timing on the engine. This was a first for me and after much hesitation and procrastination to do it I’m absolutely floored with how well this truck runs now! It’s completely a different machine, it has power and actually will probably keep up in traffic.
The unfortunate part is I’m still running my Chinese carb, I’m in need of the plastic spacer that sits between the butterfly valves and the body of the carb on the stock one. It’s a real bummer and it’s not something that I can get off the shelf. When I took off the OEM carb and began cleaning it the damn thing cracked and fell apart. Anyone have a carb floating around they’d let me cannibalize for the plastic spacer?

Don’t worry, the beast is still with me and I have been steadfast at getting her finished. Maybe now is a good time to explain why I’m making this and have worked over the period of five months on it basically every weekend. I’m a 32 year old man with a small family and I was looking both for a way to minimize my bills and drive something cool, I’ve never had a boring car and absolutely refused to buy a Honda civic for a multitude of reasons. I wanted to make something from scratch that I could daily drive and enjoy so here we are in the budget 60! No car not ended up being a loophole to funding this rig and also making it feasible to build until I was finished, along with having a wife who always cheered me on from the sidelines while I tackled the big ticket items. Now I’m onto the “fun” parts of the build.
For starters, the air pump lasted just long enough to pass emissions as it seized up faster than an IRS tax lien. I gutted the internals and plan to mill my own bracket for a pulley in the near future. It’s nice having access to a full tech shop at work.
Then, last night I found an older set of Cerwin Vega 6X9 speakers that I have been hunting for and installed them. Kinda comical at the size of the speaker in comparison to the door. I’m a bit of an audiophile and found that the Boston Acoustics were not only underwhelming but worn to the point they needed replaced. Sure they made noise, but they didn’t make music sound like music. Once I get my bonus in June, I’m going to be looking for a decent front bumper maybe something middle of the road price wise with the option for a winch and some lights. Anyone have any suggestions?

Looking good! I'd recommend hitting up Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters for a new ARB bumper.
I’m on the fence about an ARB, price point it’s harsh on the wallet but with an annual bonus I guess it wouldn’t hurt TOO bad. 😂

Yeah, I was on the fence a long time too and searched for a used old style ARB, but couldn't find one that cost any less than a new ARB. The new style has grown on me and definitely no regrets. Great upgrade that really completes the 60 series.

I remember thinking the ARB was a big mistake when it was installed on Bart but soon realized it was just right in appearance and functionality. I also remember, way back when, thinking that 31s were way too big when they were first installed.

Man, yall convinced me! Now the worst part about bonus money is waiting for it.. 🤣 I’ll definitely be going to an ARB! Question for you, does it use the stock bumper mounts? If so I’ll have to finish scavenging them off @timmbuck2’s parts rig. The previous owner of mine had some home made crap welded on when I first got it and removed the stock mounts. I gotta give the PO some credit cause he made the rear bumper and it’s actually really well done and looks great. I’ll also be adding a rear spare tire hitch to it!

We could bring a new ARB bumper to Cruise Moab, someone from Rising Sun may be able to get it back to Denver area. Saves you the shipping and we'll make the price sweet.
