Blow Off Work and Go Wheelin' Run 2026
The annual BOWAGW run is happenin' for the 25th year in a row. It's on a Friday afternoon which is usually an easier time to bug out of the office. Better yet, June 19 is "Juneteenth" which is a holiday for some. Sneak out of work and come join us on the trail. Better yet, take the whole day off.
Date: Friday, June 19, 2026
Meeting Time: Arrive by 1:30 p.m. and air down. Driver's meeting at 1:45 p.m. Depart at 2:00 p.m.
Meeting Place: Meet at the trailhead parking lot (which is large). Here is a Google Maps link directly to the parking lot.
Trail: Slaughterhouse Gulch near Bailey, Colo. It's a good beginner trail with fun obstacles and a great overlook towards the end. There are tight sections with trees and scrub that may lightly scratch your paint, so if you just spent $85K on a new Lexus GX 550, consider whether you want to add fresh Colorado pin striping to your truck. If you're new-ish to the club, it's a great first run to do with Rising Sun. We will make sure you have a good day.
What to bring: Full tank of fuel, water, snacks, sunscreen, camera, good shoes, a hat. There are no bathrooms at the trailhead or on the trail, so take care of your urgent business before you arrive (or bring a portable toilet).
FAQs
Do I need a lifted truck to do this run?
No. Stock Toyota 4x4 vehicles perform fine on this trail. If you do have a lift, you can explore the optional fun sections on the trail.
Do I need recovery gear?
No. Between club members, there will be plenty of recovery gear on hand if it's needed. You don't need to purchase expensive gear to run this trail.
Recommended: Bring a pair of work gloves in case you need to stack rocks or handle equipment.

Recommended, but not required: We'll be using FRS radios on the trail for communication. The little handheld units work great. You can pick these up for cheap. If you're buy these new, we recommend getting radios that can be charged with a USB cable and don't require a cradle. If you don't have an FRS radio, there will be plenty of extra radios at the trailhead that you can borrow from a club member.

Do I need a winch?
Nope.
We're airing down? Do I need an air compressor?
This is not a requirement. If you have a portable 12v. compressor, bring it. We will air down at the trail head and we will ask everyone to air down. This makes wheeling better for both traction and to soak up the bumps as you run the trail. It's easier on both you and your truck, and you will do better on the trail going over obstacles.
After the trail run, you can air up at the Loaf N Jug at Hwy 285 and 43A. This is easy and lots of people do this every year. You also may be able to air up using someone else's compressor when we're off the trail. There are many of us in the club with portable air compressors.
Recommended: at minimum, bring a pencil tire pressure gauge. Much better: Get a tire deflator with gauge to air down quicker with less frustration. These work great and there are many options: search for "rapid tire deflators with gauge" on Amazon. I have the ARB tire deflator which is excellent, but there are plenty of cheaper options. We can show you how to use it at the trailhead — it's a little puzzling to use the first time.

Pizza after the run
We'll plan to have pizza at Snowpack Taproom & Pizzeria in Conifer after the run is over. RS will buy pizza. We'll probably be there around 4:00, but it depends on how many people show up for the run. Could be earlier, could be later.
