Had a nice time at Wheeler Lake today. Thanks to Dan for leading and Justin for some great spots

The trail was harder than I thought it would be from watching the videos on line. There were 3 major obstacles and lots of rock terrain to cross. It was a great time and the lake was beautiful place to have lunch

Thanks Dan, Justin, The Morgan Clan and the Herring Clan for joining us on a nice July day

Justin made it all seem easy with his 40, great suspension, Low Gearing and 35" tires

Pretty cool that APRS tracked me all the way to the lake even though I didn't have cell coverage

Excellent lead Dan! And thanks to Justin for the guidance. “Dad, why do the 40s make it look so easy?” Great day!

Saw you coming through Conifer on 285 about 4:30, Ken. I tried to catch up to you to wave, but I didn't want to go over 70 in a 55 zone. Glad you all had a great run!

Thanks for setting this run up Ken and it was fun leading. I remember when I did this trail back in 86 or 87 when we got done I said that this was shortest hard trail we had ever done. 30 plus years later I think I can say that it still is. I don’t think I ever got out of 1st gear. Relentless boulders.

So this trip was a great learning opportunity for spotting everyone through some of these obstacles. I have been used to smaller mini trucks, to spotting the Princess Cruise ships (aka 200 series). I have a whole new appreciation for the 200, they are beasts and certainly proved their worthiness on a difficult trail. Just incredible watching Ken and John both. And there's Justin just point and shoot. It's funny how pictures don't do this trail justice.

This brings back some fond memories when my dad would take us up there in the late "70's in his International scout. It was a rough road back then and I can see that over the years it has gotten rougher. And now, I need to take a trip up there for old times sake.

Sorry for the random thread bump, but I thought this would be a good place to ask.

I'm doing Wheeler Lake for the first time next week. I'll be in my LX570 which is stock besides 35's and sliders. No lockers. Will I be in over my head? Are there bypasses for the major obstacles if needed? The 80 made pretty much everything easy, but I'm still getting used to the big minivan.

I'll be going with a friend of my wife's in a late model Taco TRD. We've known the guy forever, but never wheeled with him, so I'm not sure if he's a competent spotter.
