New Dobinsons heavy duty dual stage coils. Now 26” hub to fender wrapped around a 38” tire on all 4 corners. These coils are unreal at high speed in handing big hits and dips.

Perfect to add a half inch of lift as I tune travel for the 38’s.

Also added Timbren bumps in the rear - these compress somewhat like hydro bumps to prevent harsh bottom outs.

About the same total compression as the 3” drops they replaced.

Been doing a fair amount to my 80 as of late.
-deleted abs
-Installed an awning
-hard mounted a rifle case for recovery gear.
- now rebuilding the front axle.
-replacing the avm hubs with proper aisins.
-And tossing in some longfields

-installing winch behind front bumper will be next.

It’s only taken me 5years to get to this point, but I’m finally getting there.

Made this spare tire cover from waxed canvas today. Added “sewing machine” to the list of tools I have functional proficiency in. The creases will go away after a couple hot days softens the wax. I sized it for 33” tires I intend on getting down the road, but it’s currently on a 31 - hence it looks a little baggy.

Finally got my lift on the truck. 3" icon springs I got used, and 3 icon shocks. Not 4 because the effers sent me a 4th box with just hardware. Still need to add the tough dog steering stabilizer and caster correction plates. Going to add longer brake lines when I fix my rear calipers.

Finally replaced my damaged flare from my accident over 3 years ago. This is a LX450 fender I snagged from Littleton U-Pull a couple years ago.

Total PITA because of bending to the inner fender and radiator core, but I got everything lined up and bolted back together.

Seems the LX fender, while having the same mount points, is just slightly different than the 80 fender as it flares out just slightly in the middle. I like that look for not running flares, makes me want to do the other side, even though it’s very subtle

Nice to have this fixed and proper side light working again. Now I have to figure out my Durabak refresh. I did that a decade ago and it needs a full refresh so this will force me to get off my ass and do it.

The parking brake shoes suck but not as bad as I thought they would.

I do not have the SST from Toyota for the parking brake shoe return springs but this Cornwell tool worked very well. #OF-1045

Checked the rear diff fluid after all the water at Argentine last weekend. Looks like fresh honey but it tastes different...
Pulled the breather valve and gave it the blow suck test and it has failed. Replaced with a nipple and am taking a break from running the hose to the engine bay.
Also brushed some liquid electrical tape onto my arb compressor wires where a rodent was nibbling on the swell run.
Plan to check and top off all the fluids and there was something else I wanted to look at but it slips my mind right now. Where did I put that darn list?!

Just changed out my starter after barely 5ish years and swapped out the neutral safety switch on the tranny. Ended up having to wrap up some wires that were missing the protective covers too because they were so brittle. The pig started so that's a good sign. Still need to go for a test drive.

So with the rain at least I was able to rebuild the hubs with new wheel studs, rotors, inner bearings and seals installed.

Still have brake hoses, brake booster, master cylinder, then reassemble everything and bleed the system.

Got the York OBA working on the mini, again. 75% of the bracket is there to replace the stock spring tensioner bracket, so it takes on a good deal of stress and vibration. Originally, the tensioner part of the bracket took a lot of shear force and snapped. This go-around, I added supports between the York and tensioner. Now most of the tensioner forces should be applied compressively toward the York and take all the stress out of the rest of the bracket. Thats the plan anyway.

I started to swap my fan clutch with my modded one. I noticed the belts were a bit loose. Found both tension adjusters jacked up. Ac adjuster bolt was missing from the idler. I searched for a bit to order one. $20 for that sucker! I remembered my project motor came with a ac unit in a spares box and I checked it for bolt and scored!!
Alt. one just wasn’t attached to alt bolt. I think I got that fixed.
Felt a little bit of play in the water pump and it’s a unknown miles on it deal and I have a bunch of hoses and a thermostat stuff I needed to replace so figured might as well do it now. So I pulled that apart. Ordered and new pump and thermostat guide housing gasket. Struggled a bit finding that gasket.
20min clutch fan swap turned into this. Seems to be a trend on my 80 atm.

Changed out the smog pump on my 60 out last weekend. I’m pretty sure the screeching sound I would occasionally get at startup was something inside the pump binding. I had a freshly rebuilt one from B-Z Rebuilders in LA ready to go so I swapped that in. It apparently has a 500-mile break in period where it might make strange noises …. Let me tell ya, it squeaks and chirps. Only 375 miles left to go 🙄
