I’m working on a 22RE today. I’m replacing the valve stem seals and wondering about the exhaust valve seats. The intake is nice and shinny while the exhaust does not look as good. Is this something that should be addressed?

Are they all like this or is this just one? There's several things to consider, leaking HG, cracked block or head, EGR issues, lean or rich. Could also just be a sign of running the valves out of adjustment. The one you show looks like carbon built around the seat so it's not sealing and I wouldn't think that's ideal so seems to me you'd want to clean it up.
