Who all would be interested in doing these trails next summer?
The Rubicon is definitely on my radar for next summer.
Dusy Ershim would be a bonus but not deal breaker if it doesn't happen next summer.
Dates wise are wide open at the moment, but looking at sometime between mid July to Mid August.
Maybe shoot for something around the Rubithon??

I was looking at the Rubicon trail yesterday and it is closed due to fires. Not sure how bad the trail is affected or how a fire might affect the trail in general with added erosion possibilities with less trees and bushes. Wonder how it will be affected?

All the NF are closed in Cali at the moment. Last I read the Rubicon hasn’t been affected by the.... yet, and my not be at all. Time will tell.

Rubithon registration opened on January 8th and there are still openings on all runs, except Pryor’s Wagon Run (as of January 9th, 2021). The Rubicon and National Forest are open again. The trail escaped fire damage, so the beauty of the area is intact. Hope to see you at Rubithon !

I'd love to go, but I would want a built 80 for those two trails which I don't have at the moment.

Interested in Dusy Ershim. My parents live at Dinkey Creek which is halfway between the two entrances/exits. You have to drive by their place (well unless you take a forest road) to get up to or back down from the mountains.

Possibly interested in Rubicon.

Both will depend on specific timing and my work assignments this coming summer.

FWIW, we have had a really bad snowpack around the Dusy Ershim trail this year. At 6000 feet (where my parents live) there currently is just a couple inches of hard, icy snow in the shadows and everything else is bare. This time last year there was about six feet of snow on the ground at their house already.

I think they've gotten total about 6 inches of precipitation since the fall so up on the Dusy they probably have gotten maybe 6 feet of snow total and probably half of it has melted on most of the trail.

Unless things pick up before the end of April, the trail could be open in June this year.

Although... one wildcard is what the USFS will do after the monster Creek Fire that consumed much of the Bald Mountain OHV Area (close to Shaver Lake) and might have touched the north end of the Dusy Trail. Everything is closed within the burn footprint and also a lot of the surrounding forest until they can get crews in to evaluate and remediate.

If you have extra time (and if it opens), Swamp Lakes Trail is a good one as well. It's very close to the Dusy and takes ~2-3 days for most people. There are a few other good trails in the area that are day trips or half day trips, too.

Even if I can't go do Dusy with y'all, happy to help with local intel. May also be able to help with logistics or emergency stuff if needed.
