From the Rampart Range Motorcycle Management Committee:
*********************************************
The Roadless Initiative did not die with the Clinton Presidency! It is alive and well and being implemented in Colorado!

The Good news is, this decision will not be made entirely in
Washington D.C., instead each state will be able to make decisions based on public input, the bad news is at both the Durango and Pueblo meetings had a large showing by the anti-access groups.

This is where we come in...

The state of Colorado has formed a task force to study the issue and make recommendations to Gov. Bill Owens as to what areas to protect and that means we may lose riding areas!

Your help and support is needed at the next Roadless Area Task Force Statewide Public Meeting on February 24th at the Adams Mark Hotel, 1550 Court Place downtown Denver, in the Grand Ballroom from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.

It will be tough for most of us to make it for the whole thing, but it is important that we show up for the Public Comment session from 4:55pm to 6:00pm, individuals will be allotted 1 minute to speak.

This impacts all OHV users! We need to stand in force to protect our rights to the OHV land use we currently have!

The environmental groups will be there to plead their wishes and so should we, the OHV community. We need volunteers the participate in the Public Comment session, handouts will be available on a variety of topics that you can address. We need the task force to communicate back to Gov. Bill Owens just how many responsible OHV users are out there using the current areas available to them, responsibly.

OHV recreation is on the rise and will continue to do so in the
coming years. This meeting is the time for us to step forward and have our voices be heard.

Scheduled future meetings are:

Denver, (Feb 24th,2006) Adams Mark Hotel 1550 Court Place, downtown.
Meeting 2pm-6pm; Public comment 4:55 pm-6 pm

Fort Collins (March 17, 2006): Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest
Steamboat Springs (May 18, 2006): Routt National Forest
Monte Vista (June 7, 2006): Rio Grande National Forest
Glenwood Springs (June 21, 2006): White River and Manti-La Sal
National Forests

These are issues to be aware of. Please visit this member's-only link! You may be as surprised as I was.

You might be interested to know that I am not necessarily opposed to roadless designation as such, but it could complicate road maintenance especially in some of our favorite places. Visit the link to learn more.

If you cannot attend any of the meetings, be aware that you can submit comments in writing!!! Please do so.
