Welcome Rising Sun members and visitors alike! As you may or may not know, Rising Sun has adopted the Argentine Pass/Leavenworth Creek/Waldorf townsite area as one of our Adopt-a-Roads with the USFS, specifically the Clear Creek Ranger District (CCRD). It is trail system 248, and is located near the town of Georgetown. The trail is accessed via Guanella Pass Road. Our contact with the CCRD for Argentine is Brant Wobig, who is the travel management ranger.

You can go here to find maps and information about Argentine Pass:

Part of our agreement for the Adopt-a-Road program is to do a group trail cleanup twice a year minimum.

Rising Sun has also adopted Jenny Creek as one of our Adopt-a-Roads with the USFS, specifically the Boulder Ranger District (BRD). It is trail system 502 and 808, and is located near the town of Rollinsville. The trail is accessed via Rollins Pass Road, and parallels that road and exits out at Yankee Doodle Lake. Our contact with the BRD for Jenny Creek is Cat Luna. Past projects have included installing post-and-cable around what used to be a mud bog at Yankee Doodle Lake and also installing a winch anchor to help rigs get across the snowdrift at the exit of the trail that sometimes lingers late into summer.

Kingston Peak is a relatively new addition to the club, adopted in 2016. NORAC (Nissan club) has adopted the Boulder Ranger District side of the trail and we have the Clear Creek Ranger District side. Our main area of initial focus is the long meadow area where the trail has widened with multiple bypasses due to the original trail being almost impassable for even medium built vehicles. There is a perception in the FS that significant engineering and road-building equipment will be required but the club is considering a more conventional club approach that could get most of the trail passable again. Once the original path has been restored the bypasses could start to be closed and re-vegetated. The Kingston Peak gate closes on November 1. It is generally accessed from Nederland by taking Mammoth Gulch. Kingston then drops you back into Alice, so you could also run it “backwards.” There are also connections to Yankee Hill and Apex depending on which turns you take.

Finally, every year we record our volunteer hours with the USFS and the Colorado Association of 4WD Clubs. Volunteer hours get reported in High Trails magazine and the data is also used by the USFS and USDA to divide federal land use funds for road (trail) maintenance projects. So when you are out there and you pick up some trash on the trail (any trail in Colorado), write down your hours (including travel time to/from the trail) and submit them to this thread:

So would it count if my son and I go to dig for crystals somewhere and we pick up trash around the parking area for 20 min? Or if on my way back from Laramie and went to check access conditions to a friend's claim in Jackson county? Oh, and I'm not a member YET?
