Good morning all,
It was great to meet everyone last night and I hope to see a lot more of you guys! I’m going to paste a link to the mud thread I started a couple months back for those of you that were interested. Also, I am open to any and all feed back or advice as I rebuild my Dads 1980 FJ40.

Thanks,
Sean

Hey Sean, thanks for sharing your story last night, and looking forward to the build! I am just across the highway from you, and have a 82FJ40 that's also 653 olive green. You can flip through my build on the forum here https://risingsun4x4club.org/xf/threads/40-build-nakman-style.23369/

I am pretty terrible at body work but somehow managed to get from this:

Thanks for posting this up! I think that it is really awesome that you are building this out in memory of your dad. What a great way to remember someone important. I am looking forward to seeing more.

Just thought. Over time you might get more people who find this thread if you update the title to something more descriptive of the project. I believe that you can still edit the title when if you edit the main post.

This is a good idea. @Connelly80FJ40 let me know if you want me to change the title of the thread to something like "Rebuilding my Dads 1980 FJ40" or something more descriptive.

I, like Tim, just refurbished a late model (1982) 40 so let me know if you have any questions. I'm glad you got your hands on your dads rig. I bet he'd be super stoked.

So, it’s been awhile since I posted! I’ve been working on it slowly these past few weeks (life keeps getting in the way of my build!) I have replaced the starter, and just got in my D.U.I. Also, got fuel lines, brake lines and new gas tank! But, before all that I had to clean her again! I can’t believe how bad the rust really is and how much grease and oil was covering everything. Here are a few pictures of her in the sun with her top off! I also scored some 31x10.5 DuraTracs for a great price. Still planning on restoring the original wheels, but these will work for now.

So, not yet! Worked on it last weekend. I got fresh oil, and did a full tune up, and still wasn’t getting spark. I also had to replaced the starter. I narrowed it down to the igniter + some really old wiring as my cause of no spark. It does seem that I was building compression, but not 100% sure how much. So, instead of chasing things around I ordered a DUI. Hopefully on Thursday I will install the DUI and fire it up! 🤞🏽
