Primus at Redrocks

I've been pretty spoiled over the last few weeks. Went to the two day Metallica M72 concert a few weeks ago and now I got to see Primus. My sister came out from Kansas for a long weekend and she's always wanted to see them.

It was pretty hot out, about low 90s at the start of the show but it was fine. Les Claypool is still amazing on da bass. Not sure how he does it and still has a hand or fingers.

I keep feeling like I'm becoming one of those old guys who would tell you the time they saw Led Zeppelin live...

but yeah, like 30+ years ago was the the first time I saw Primus play. It was in Denver but I don't think the place exists anymore.. (Mammoth?). Janes Addiction opened. My friend Aaron smacked his face into someone's shoulder bouncing around to Tommy the Cat in the pit, he had a black eye for like 2 weeks after that... never forget that show. come to think of it we were in the dorms at the time so that would have been 1990... yikes

As an old guy who saw LED Zeppelin live let me tell you about it. It was spring of 1970 and LZ II had been released a few months earlier and Whole Lotta Love was everywhere on the radio. LZ was coming to Kansas City as part of the tour supporting the album but Jimi Hendrix was also coming to KC a couple of weeks earlier. Being a poor college sophomore I had to choose one band to see as I couldn’t afford to go to both shows as tickets were probably $10, about $82 today. Using sophomoric logic I chose LED Zeppelin as Whole Lotta Love was an earworm that couldn’t be ignored and I knew that Jimi was going to be King forever and that LZ might be a passing fancy. I’ve regretted that decision ever since as Jimi was dead five months later. I do still vividly remember the Zep show, but, damn.
