I highly recommend the one-way train ride. Two ways is almost too much, anticlimactic. One year we loaded motorcycles in a boxcar and rode the train to Silverton, then unloaded the bikes and rode on. The experience was great, and the looks from other passengers were priceless!
Just like what the cowboys used to do with horses.
I'll have to see if I can make it this year. I'd love to get down there again but being away from the wife and kid over the holiday might not be my best move and esp on the heels of the TBP and the DTBP. I'm not missing that, it's the best run of the year not counting the ghost town run.
I chose the "what's a train?" option.. we're a definite for the weekend, but a maybe for the train. Depends on how the day is going with the little one, and how we feel at the time about dropping the $130. Willing to be a shuttle driver, if we don't end up riding.
Wife thinks train is a great idea. She can drop me and the kids on the train and drive to Silverton. I've wanted to do that train and it doesn't sound like we'd miss too much wheeling.
