Saw a Polestar in the Home Depot parking lot this morning. I think it was the Polestar 2. I should have taken a photo (I'm posting a photo from the Polestar website).

Anyone driven one of these yet?

You know the irony here is that Volvo used to work with a race prepping group called Polestar Racing, which ran specially preped B8444S (our S60 I think) with crazy rad 650 HP V8s in Australia against modern GTOs and stuff, among lots of other things. Oh man, the sound. Look 'em up on U-toob. Volvo bought the group and those guys are now known as Cyan Racing. So the name Polestar isn't just some random marketing thing dreamed up. Overseas it's got I guess the same whispered reverence as Shelby or something.

I've seen a few Polestars around town out here in Monterey lately. They look pretty sharp.

I saw two driving down 25 and they had a QR code on the C pillar to scan to set up a test drive. They were sporting Michigan plates so I assume they were testing them coast to coast.

Just test drove one in Scottsdale. I’d say it’s now very high on my list of next daily driver. It’s got just enough ground clearance to survive my subdivision. Without leather I can spec it under $60K which is probably the threshold for the overall cost of ownership over a new Subaru. Still more overall but not by too much if any if I compare to WRX rather than Crosstrek.

I’ve been down the Polestar dark hole since driving it. Really like this car. I found the driving experience over the weekend exceptional. One pedal driving was perfect. The interior design and layout only had one flaw, the cup holder. But it’s better than an 80 Series. My bar is low. Love the rear hatch. Reminded me of my IROC in Highschool. Better than a trunk. I could put the Malamute back there if I had to.

Found this custom paint gem online last night. Love it.

I've seen many of these beauties on my commute up and down the Gap. Good to hear your positive review as I'd love to get EV daily driver at some point in the future.

My neighbor has had one for a little over a year. Beautiful car; does throw off some Ford EV Mustang vibes but thats likely just design ques as we see similar "high trunk" designs on a lot of the EV brands to accommodate space and seating above the battery trays.

2024 model year changes were announced. They are changing the single motor FWD to a new more powerful RWD configuration. Same new rear motor goes into the AWD giving it a rear wheel bias. More total power and both get a longer range due to battery size and efficiency of new motor. This is all good stuff.

On the down side, IMHO is they seem to be reducing the build configurations. All the safety nanny crap is now standard. And vehicles with the performance package have to get the plus pack. I really just want the plus pack and nothing else, well OK, some aftermarket wheels. Hoping the price does not jump with its new "standard equipment nanny".

On the exterior the grill is all but gone in favor or a smooth front much like the Tesla. Boo, I liked its grill as it gave the car a more normal look. And it hid the front camera which now is an eye sore.

If I go this direction I'll probably be looking at the 2025 model year as I'm 18 month out from placing an order. It's pretty much this car or a WRX in my future as I see it today.

They look so good on the street. I'm seeing more and more around my area. I feel the styling is somewhere between a regular Volvo, a Tesla, and a Hyundai Ioniq 5.

My coworker just told me he drove one as a rental car in Austin and he could not believe how fast it was. He said his neck was actually sore from the acceleration. 0-60 in under 4 seconds...wow!

Whenever I have done demos in a Rivian or a Tesla I’ve always told people to put their head, shoulders, and hips as far back into the seat as possible and warn them before a launch. It literally can injure people especially older folks or those with previous injuries. On the track at the factory, I’d do demos with a 0-100mph launch (later lowered to ~70mph), very tight and aggressive drifting course, generic off road course, then finish up with a steep 45 incline then decline…and reverse back up the 45 incline. With that much power and weight, making sure people are buckled in tight and braced for it is key!
