Clayton, Steve and I got a chance for a quick escape out to wheel yesterday. Ran up the Mitchell Lakes Road just north of Durango. I’d never been and neither of them since before the 416 fire. Despite the fire two years ago things we much greener than we expected. Trail climbs from HWY 550 at the Bakers Bridge area west up the valley wall. Road is super narrow with few opportunities for vehicles to pass. Vegetation was tight and offered free pin stripping services. Trail is mostly dirt with loose rocks and deep rain ruts. One switchback required backing up to the next turn much like E-Hill.
