One of the other Electreks I've seen had "Mercury" written on the hatch handle but yep it looks like the Pinto hatch for sure!
That one would be off a Mercury Bobcat. One of the other Electreks I've seen had "Mercury" written on the hatch handle but yep it looks like the Pinto hatch for sure!
I said the same to Jimmy last weekend. I thought it was a Pinto/Bobcat (Mercury version) hatch.Hatch on the Electrek appears to be from a 1980 Ford Pinto, which is not 'obscure' if you're old enough ;-)

I plan on doing a full exterior restoration also complete with new brown vinyl!I just love that Eletrek style and color 😍 We need more cars like this in the world.
What are the dimensions of the motor, and can you post some other pics of it to get an idea of how to hold it?
Everything is f'd on this truck, that's why it was $1000 . Everything that needs it will be repaired replaced or upgraded eventually.
I finished removing all the rest of the ICE stuff and Josh killed it and got the motor stack taken apart.
Check out the stark difference between the new powerplant and the old:
All this is for sale:
Yep the exhaust and other ICE stuff is for sale. Haven't listed it officially except on craigslist. I will send you a PM.Is there a classifieds thread for that stuff? I'd take the exhaust (minus y-pipe/cats) if it isn't too beat up.
I'm a huge EV proponent but my main concern with doing a big swap like this is parts availability if I'm on the road and something blows up on me. I think that's a dumb concern though as long as I don't have too much custom stuff because the Nissan Leaf, for instance, is incredibly common and there should be spare parts at many local parts stores. I guess if it was something like the motor control board that could leave you stranded for a few days while you get one shipped in from somewhere. When people say they're worried about EV reliability, they should look at these pics. There are way, way fewer moving parts in an EV to go wrong, and the parts that do exists are generally incredibly robust and don't even need servicing. Just think about all the various fluids that need to be "baselined" in an ICE vehicle vs an EV.
