Well, I’ve got cell service on top of a mountain above Empire so I figured I’d start a trip report. This was a great little run up to Bill Moore Lake!

Attendance:
@Cruisertrash + Karen
@Capriblue45
@fyffer
@baileyfj40
@DomOfTheDead

Great trip, and glad to have four 60 Series trucks out for the Inaugural 60s Only Run. Dom came with us in his 80 as an honorary 60. I suppose as Event Coordinator he was welcome to join and supervise this initial event 😉

We met about a mile north of Empire on Main Street, where the trail starts. Leaving Empire look on the west side of the street for a 60 Series parked in a driveway next to a cabin! I left my phone at the gas station in Empire, and that delayed our start from 9 to 9:30. Oops! Dom and Fyffer took the shorter but more difficult v-notch route on the way up while the rest of us bypassed. No mechanical issues all day except Bailey Mike getting a little lightheaded from an exhaust leak in his 62. We arrived at the lake around 10:45 and posed on some rocks, had lunch, and hung out.

@Capriblue45 and @baileyfj40 left around 1:30, and Fyffer, Dom, and myself started back down shortly after. Fyffer and I were camping, so about halfway down we headed up a side trail and said goodbye to Dom who was heading home.

Fyffer and I found a great spot about 200ya off the first side trail we turned on and set up. All three of us spent a lot of time picking up trash and glass. In the evening a thunderstorm rolled through and cooled things off after dark. It was actually warmer this morning when we woke up. Fyffer rolled out around 9 to head home, and Karen and I are sitting here drinking coffee.

All around a great trip. This event will definitely make a return next year - with better planning! Having not lead very many trail runs, I’m open to criticism from those who attended so I can improve. Most of y’all had done Bill Moore Lake 100 times, so I wasn’t so much “leading” as I was just out in front. Shout out to @Crash for suggesting this idea and for taking me on this trail last year! Sorry you couldn’t make it!

Huge thank you to @Cruisertrash for seeing this through and to everyone involved in this run. It was an honor to be part of this and it was an interesting contrast for me to experience compared to the 80s only runs. Model specific trail runs allow groups to move at an extremely fluid pace on-trail and I found that following the 60s group in my lonesome 80, that often I was the one outpaced. 😅 Thus making it difficult for me to get pictures of these cool trucks, Jim was always out of frame by the time I got my camera out. As always, thanks for letting me be a part of this and to play devil's advocate to @fyffer in his line choices and parking spots. 😁

Well it turned out this was my shake down trip, avg 10mpg on hwy, Coolant hot at lower RPM’s. Springs and installed centering bolt were all just fine. Great trip as usual with the club, nothing but Good people that I’ve been on trails with, this absolutely no exception. Thanks Jim for setting it up and will attend in the future despite the distance. Great camping with you , Karen and Tucow. I always pick up small things about our rigs during events, some I retain and use. Dom found a parking spot for me (trouble maker), forgot the Phone in the rig so I had to move a big rock to get in and get it.

Be and stay safe all, Mike

P.S. Today I got the Fj62 picked up from AA performance muffler and brakes. New exhaust from the manifolds back. One O2 sensor was plugged the other was hanging by the wire, one cat was completely plugged and the other was almost plugged. The muffler was just starting to rust out.
