So I've attempted to resize images in the forum as they are displaying at full size. I'm running Chrome 63.0.3239.132 64-bit and after reading the bbcode.org website on image tags have tried using the following bbcode

Sample Image:
http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/uploads/Annotated_birfield_diagram.jpg

Code:
[img=100x50]http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/uploads/Annotated_birfield_diagram.jpg[/img]
[img width="100" height="50"]http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/uploads/Annotated_birfield_diagram.jpg[/img]
[img width=500 height=500]http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/uploads/Annotated_birfield_diagram.jpg[/img]
[img size=75]http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/uploads/Annotated_birfield_diagram.jpg[/img]
[img width=150]http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/uploads/Annotated_birfield_diagram.jpg[/img]
As you can (may/may not?) see below, none of these function. It is displayed as plain text in my browser.

Is there some other way to resize images? Is vbulletin supposed to do this automatically? Maybe the user is at fault!

I just use another program like Adobe Photo elements and have never had a problem

So your workaround is to resize every image before uploading or attaching it to the forum post? I've considered this but it's a good chunk of work even in something like Lightroom to batch export jpgs. The other downside is that the forum then only gets to see the one smaller image.

This still doesn't mean that it displays properly on a small screen or re-sized browser window.

Hm. Thanks for your input!

actually I take all my photos that I for example take at CM and create a Post folder with the same name. I then have Adobe do a batch resize of everything in the first folder and it places it in the second folder

If I am just doing one photo, I use the windows snip tool and save as a jpeg

Ben, I don't know -- we've never explored having auto image resizing on the forum. One thing that may be hindering this is that we're running vB 3.7.1 which is an older version of vBulletin. The latest version of the 3 series is 3.8.11.

I use a photo hosting site and link to the photos there. (Smugmug) I upload full size images and then Smugmug lets me choose from a range of sizes and gives me a link that I copy into the 'insert image' tab when posting. No resizing using software or html code required. ;)

Hey, that's nice! Seems like a decent workaround. I wonder what the longevity is on something like that. Few things are more disappointing than great threads with broken img links.

I know that most forums now auto-resize images to accomodate the wider standard of display sizes and pixel density that the world didn't have in 2008- and this is my main concern. What looks good on my computer at home is borderline unreadable on the work display.

There's been a few threads where I've uploaded images to IH8MUD and used their resized images and thumbnails to post here. Its somewhat baffling that the workaround is to manually size, upload, and link images TWICE.
