As the title states I want to set up an online forum for a niche hobby that I have noticed is starting to grow and doesn't yet have any forum specifically for it. I would love to use the XenForo software this forum uses but from there I really don't know what to do. If anyone wants to volunteer to help me get started I would greatly appreciate it! I have moderated lots of forums and I have posted tons but I don't know how to set it up behind the scenes.

I don't want to pull people away from their day jobs or responsibilities but looking for any pointers I can get. I have a URL and have created websites in the past etc, I could probably get through it myself but I'm sure there are lots of pitfalls and common issues to avoid. I'd rather just save the time and effort haha

There are lots of options, what's your budget? You could setup a old linux box at your office that would do the job and run a web server. You would have to do some maintenance on it.

I know there is a forum for Xenforo users and developers where you can find pros to help out.
RS found a guy there to help with our transition.

You need to figure out where you're hosting and what that's going to cost based on size/traffic as a starting point.

As always, if you have an unlimited budget you should call me and I'll giterdone :ROFLMAO:

Now I'm wondering what the hobby is!

FWIW, I am using groups.io to host several listservs for a niche motorcycle. It's like Yahoo Groups but with more features. Seems to work well enough.

Jimmy, I can give you some advice on this. I've stood up a couple of XF forums now. It's pretty straightforward.

As @AimCOTaco mentioned, the "forum for people who manage forums" is here:

I've set up several forums, one of which went pretty huge over the years and sold nicely. I've always used VB but not sure what's out there presently. Sort of a pain but I've gone from zero to up and running in a day, just have to know some reasonably basic stuff.

Looks like Hulk can help.
