So my rig is back on the road rolling on a new frame, motor/body mounts, fuel/brake lines. Just got to bolt up skid plate and cage. We'll meet at the trailhead at 8:30am on trail by 9am. There is both free and pay camping on homestake road (fr703). Homestake is between Minturn and Leadville on Hwy 24. There is no gas in the town of Redcliff. There is a "parking lot" at trailhead(fr759). We will do lunch at Holy Cross City. The Trail is rated Very Difficult. Body damage may occur. Locker good. I'll be in England visiting my grandparents Aug 25 to 30th. So I won't be able to answer many questions until I return. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

I ran it on Friday with at the Runner Jambo. I hate to say it, but French Creek is now clearly more difficult. It's 35" tire country, unless you want to winch\drag your belly over it. Only 2 people made it over without winching (on 35's and 37's). Another guy broke his axle while winching and after giving it heck. I didn't attempt it and probably will never attempt it the way it is now.

It's still a nice run to the creek and you can always park and ride with others beyond the creek.

Hmmm!

I heard a guy in a stock Rav4 with 2x6 boards made it through French Creek... :D

Yes it has gotten more difficult,but...

It is not easy, but can be done with 33's. As trail leader I will not be winching, and yes I intend to "drag my belly" across some nasty rocks. I used to get up with 32 A/T's but not without rear locker. If it were easy would it be as much fun. I like the left line that dents the front fender and door. I've never seen anyone make it up the right/ center line. Seen a few people try... If youv'e got over 35's I'll be looking to see how it's done :D

Hey Guys, just got an email from Gert, here's a quote:

Gert, you'll learn quickly that asking for a spare seat is no problem at all with this group.

Yea! I was trying to send one to Perry and I kept getting an error.
Thanks for the response!

I am planning to join the club and will come to the next meeting to make
sure you'll put up with me. : ) But I read about the Holy Cross run
coming up. Now, this is were I get really difficult. I just bought a brand new Tacoma Off-Road. I know there is NO WAY it will make it on Holy
Cross, nor would I try anything that crazy with my new baby. So, I'm
wondering if any of you would ever consider taking a rider? I know that is forward considering none of you know me. I'll take the oath of no back-seat driving and I can bake if bribery is needed! : ) I've done a lot of off-roading with my Dad but Holy Cross was out of our league (we only had stock vehicles) and I'd love to see it!

If not, no worries, I'll just hope to meet the folks I've seen on the website at the next meeting. If there might be someone willing to do that,
just let me know the details and count me in! : )

THANKS Kipper! Look forward to meeting you!

Hello Everyone!

Thanks, Kipper, for sharing my email. I was beginning to feel a little shy about this begging for a ride thing...guess you handled that for me! :) I am planning to be in Leadville over the Labor Day weekend anyway. If anyone really doesn't mind dragging a complete stranger along, I would be thrilled to go!

Otherwise, I will just look forward to meeting you folks at the meeting in September.

I tried to email Perry using the address listed with his name under the "Officers" tab. For some reason, I kept getting an "Undeliverable" message to that address, but Kipper's worked fine. Hope that helps.

Thanks again!
Gert

I'm looking forward to this run and think my rig is ready. I'll do a few "test" drives to and from work this week.

Who is planning on attending?
Anyone is welcome stay at my house in Vail sat night. pm me please.
Any questions I can answer?
Stock Tacoma trd could easily make it to Frenches gulch, park and ride there.

I'll give 1000.00 and a piece of elk jerky to anyone that can make it accross French Creek on 33's without a strap or cable. :D Massive rock stacking not allowed.

I'm of course joking on the 1000.00.

So I have to put the 285's on? Thought I was done with the "training wheels." ;) That sounds like easy money! Is stacking alowed just to keep the sheetmetal off the large rock on the side?
BTW, $1k is no joking matter....you offered I plan on collecting!

The large rock on the bank on the left line has fallen down so it has to be driven over now. It's rather large. This happened since Jackson's video was taken. The line in the video was way easier comparatively. link
I'm telling you it is so difficult based on 2 weeks ago. Who knows by this weekend that may have winch the rock out of the way, but I doubt it.

Interesting! Sounds like you have some inside information which makes that a loaded bet. ;) How about if I leave the 35's on and only use the rear locker....can I collect the $1k if I make it?

Change of Plans

I would like to say THANK YOU for letting me barge in on your Holy Cross discussion. I will absolutely be at the next meeting and can't wait to take a run with you all, but...mother nature changed my plans. I have some extensive Red Cross experience and have decided to spend my 3-day weekend trying to help those folks down South. I hate giving up my Leadville plans and the generous offer for me to ride along, but duty calls.

Have a great time! You'll have to put up with me on the next one! :p

Thanks again!

That rock would change it a little....

If that rock has moved it will be intersting. I'll still try in my little 33's but maybe someone with more rubber can take the lead at that point. I'll certainly try and would like to collect on that 1K wager. At least it won't eat my fender or door again.
