The 80 took me to the high ground south of Eagle and my Wirehair found some dusky grouse for me. Nice to get there in style in the 80.

We also have a wirehair. Is yours also insane? Ours is young still. Like a tiny, stubborn velociraptor that refuses to poop outside
I had a couple of Griffons and got a wire hair to have a little more “driven” dog before I learned that driven is a German word meaning insane. Fur drive means she wants to kill bunnies, squirrels, chipmunks, etc. during our grouse hunt, she chased a spike elk through black timber for a hundred yards before I figured out what was happening and lit her up with the collar.

Awesome dogs, but they are nuts!

Nice Beretta! I have a 686 also!!
This is an old 687 Silver Pigeon ii that I had restocked with a prince of Wales stock and a 28’gauge barrel added to the 20 it came with. Nice little gun and easy to carry for long hunts.

Great post and funny to hear the similarities of dogs/guns/vehicles here. I too have a 20ga Silver Pigeon, a rough grouse edition that was handed down. In my biased opinion they are the best grouse gun made, and hold a spot in the top upland bird guns for shorter work.

I grew up with a variety of bird dogs from springers to GSP's (we had a few of each over the years) but we only ended up with one wirehair. They are great dogs and absolutely bonkers too - so much so that they made our GSP's look docile. My wife and I have a lab mix now that is great at finding and flushing birds close in but gun breaking her has been a sad process. No matter how we step up the noise to a shotgun, she is terrified of it. I still have hope.
