Rising Sun Ham Guru
This is the VHF radio I use at home currently but want to start consolidating and cleaning up all this random ham stuff I have.
For sale here is a Motorola VHF commercial radio, part number AAM50KQF9AA1AN, 146-174MHz, 32-channel, 45W.
This thing is a public service, business-class radio. Kind of makes regular ham gear seem like a toy. It's rugged, has clear and loud audio, just about impossible to hurt. Would ideal for a crawler or FJ40. You can hear it over road noise, the speaker is in the front panel like all good radios.
I have hacked the code plug to work on ham bands, no permanent modifications to the radio itself.
I have a way to program it but it's not super slick. Happy to program for you (right now it's got all simplex and about 10 Front Range repeaters) or modify later, but can't really offer a programming cable or software with it. I can explain what I do if new owner wants this knowledge, it's not illegal or using pirated software in any way. It does require a copy of Motorola's CPS (Customer Programming Software).
I got it new, in the box, from a surplus sale. I think originally this thing was about a $600 radio but used they typically go for about $200.
The original mic is included but the PTT switch is flaky. I bought a HMN1056D hand mic. These are the smaller version of the ones you usually see in cop cars and stuff. In a pinch it could be used as a nunchuck.
Has mounting bracket. Face does not separate from the body but the radio is very small, about the size of a typical CB radio.
Asking $150 OBO.
