FJ60 speedo inaccurate

I realize the speedo will never be as accurate as it should, but it should be close, right? I have:
  • H55F 5-speed transmission
  • Stock axle gearing
  • 33” tires
I assume that larger tires cover more distance per revolution, which causes the speedo to read slower than I'm actually going. If that assumption is correct, then wouldn't swapping the gear from 6x16 to 6x18 (33403-69065) slow down the rotations to improve speedo accuracy?

Mud x-post, morning coffee, the other way around, lower teeth count. Makes way more sense, but the issue is that 6x16 is the lowest count as far as I know.

I had the same setup on my 60, 13% low, both speedo and odo. I never bothered to change out the gears in the back of the t-case, I just guesstimated my speed when looking at the speedo and did the actual math when calculating fuel economy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

+10000, not worth the headache. I'll use a GPS/phone to figure out how much I'm not going. I mean, we're talking about a 2F, after all, and I can finally tell the officer "my speedo doesn't work well" again. /s

Yeah, speeding is usually the least of our problems driving an old 60

With 33x9.5s, when my stock speedo reads 60, I'm actually going 69 mph. '78 FJ40, all stock.

At first I thought my FJ60 speedo was also inaccurate, but after a minor adjustment, I feel like it is correct. Screenshot_20250714_193242_Google.jpg
