A much enjoyable weekend for our first outing getting down to the town of Victor, CO. Defiantly a lot to explore in that area, and there's thoughts of doing another run.

I left early Friday morning from the cabin. Excited to test out the new camera that showed up the afternoon before.

We met up Friday morning in Canyon City- Funny thing about that, as I was driving into Canyon City, I wondered why they called the town by that name. Then I started seeing stuff for the Royal Gorge:rolleyes:.... Dan (FJCDan) Jimmy and Ryan where the first to arrive. The crew from Dave's place in Cotapaxi where a bit late to the party. With the whole group together ( 8 rigs total), we headed up the Phantom Canyon Road. This road exists today thanks to the Florence and Cripple Creek Railroad. A narrow gauge (3ft) Rail Road operating between 1893-1915. The road itself, is a easy drive through some beautiful country. As we made out way into Victor, the weather set in- Fog, rain, sleet and wind. Think it was 40'deg when we got to town.

The town of Victor is awesome. It reminded me of Black Hawk and Central City before the days of gambling. Rich with history but almost forgotten. After lunch we checked out the town then headed out to find camp. Once in Cripple Creek, we took the Shelf Road to get to a camp spot I found via Google Earth. It was fun to switch into 4wheel drive to reach camp. a spot that turned out to be a nice one- though no fires due to current bans. We enjoyed the company well into the night. Can't tell you how good it felt to be on the trail with friends.

I bugged out early Saturday knowing I had to work the next day. So hopefully the rest of the crew can chime in for that part of the trip.

Got a lot of pics, but here are a few to start.

The Victor and Cripple Creek Railroad. The next day was there first day for 2020. It's a small, 2ft narrow gauge rail road.

It was great fun! Phantom Canyon, the shelf road, great camp spots. Fun to see Victor though teh cold and rain dampened the adventure. Cripple Creek was like a fake Disneyland version due to the casinos but I understand people need jobs. Victor was so depressed by comparison. After Perry left we completed the lightly-traveled Sand Gulch loop. Back towards pavement a few more people headed home while Ryan, Dave, Chase, Zippy, and I headed through Red Canyon Park and out to County Road 11 and up to the Florissant Fossil Beds. A quick scouting stop there, Ryan headed home and Dave and I found camp nearby Blue Mountain south of Lake George. Sunday we headed up towards Lake George, drove all the way down 11 mile canyon ($7.00 fee worth it) and out Wagon Tongue Gulch Road and over and across Thirtynine Mile Mountain. Then Dave headed south and I went North. Highway 285 traffic was terrible starting at Bailey due to an accident at PIne Junction. There is so much Colorado to see. Most of this trip was areas I never saw before.

First picture is me and the dog having Nachos Thursday night in Castle Rock while waiting for Chase and Zippy.
