This one is going to need its own thread too - unbelievable fire behavior yesterday evening and today. Grand lake is being evacuated currently.

Rate of spread from 4pm yesterday to today was 6K acres AN HOUR. That is roughly 9.3 square miles an hour.

The fire was at 24.5k as 4pm yesterday and a multi mission aircraft roughly measured the fire this morning around 6am to be in excess of 125k.

Folks may be looking for a place to park vehicles, keep animals, and a place to stay for a bit.

Sounds like the snow coming this weekend has great potential to get things slowed down.

As it happens I was looking at this just this morning since a long time Rising Sun friend and occasional member is very close.

Seems RMNP is the focal point for a potential overrun at the moment.

And poor Walden, surrounded constantly this year.

Yeah, this one is the bad one it's looking like, the burn rate and limited notice result... very sad to watch unfolding.

Optimistic they were able to save most of the town last night.

6 acres AN HOUR

I imagine you meant to say 6000 acres/hour, correct?

Snyder Creek is right on the edge of it now. It's likely to get toasted.

Holy cow this is a bummer. Is there anyone in the club that needs help with this one?

We checked in with some friends in grand lake and it all happened so quick that they grabbed the dog and went to a friend's house 10 miles away. By the time they got to their friends house, they were being evacuated too, so they all went to winter park and got a hotel room.

Hoping the snowstorm Saturday/Sunday night helps and hits the area hard. 🤞

If you, or anyone you know is evacing Estes Park and doesn't have somewhere to go (or services are overwhelmed) you are welcome at our house. If we don't have room we will reach out to our church - tons of people are looking for ways to help. If you need to store vehicles or trailers as well we will coordinate to find some space.

If looking for a place to keep large animals, we have a friend in Berthoud who is taking on what they can and can help coordinate for more space with other farmers in the area.

We are in Loveland about 5 minutes north of 34 and just west of287.

Ready for the snow to fly so people can get home.

we watched this explode as we drove north up through Kremmling to go hunting this past Wednesday. It was insane to see the smoke plume extend upwards over the course of the evening as it grew. it created it's own clouds above it even.
