Dome/clock/stereo fuse is blowing...ideas?

Soooo...last night we went out eat and on the way back I noticed my stereo shutoff as did the OEM clock. Got home and found out that the fuse under the hood labled "dome" popped. Replaced it. worked for about 10 seconds and pop.

Hmmm...it was raining but not hard. The other day I drove through a torrential downpour and no probs whatsoever. So I turn off all the domes and replace fuse...again after a few seconds it pops. I take the stereo faceplate off and it all works fine. hmmm.

Put faceplate back on and stereo on quietly works just fine. As soon as I turn it up it starts to static/crackle and the pop goes the fuse. Confirmed this a few times.

Is my stereo now poo? It's a kenwood CD/MP3 aftermarket deck. Drove to work today with no stereo faceplate no issues. The stereo has been installed for 2 years without issue.

Sounds like your stereo is shorting out. Check the power, constat power, and ground behind the radio and where they pass through the firewall for any possible shorts.

Maybe a short in one of the speaker wires as well? Seems to be tied to volume huh?

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the rain...I have component speakers up front...maybe water got in there. Because it happened last night during the rain storm...although it's been in the rain before without issue.

But it's definitely volume dependent. This should be fun to trace down

I like the direction so far.

I'd check what the others said...speakers are probably easier to check first. I had some bare wires that would short out on the door and shut off the deck. (no fuses blown, though).

Any-hoo, when I put in my alpine deck in the 60, I could turn up the volume to like 13 (on a scale of 30, I think?) at vol. 14 or 15...it would shut down. turned out to be a loose/poor power connection at the battery. just tightened it, and it's been perfect for years (~4-5yrs). for clarification, I did not wire the radio to be "hot" all the time. literally, it was when I put the battery cables back on. so...a goofy power connection might do goofy things.

Here's hoping for a simple fix.

Well, as quickly as it started...it quit...

I'm not sure if moisture got somewhere wacky or what...but I did notice a damp spot around my windshield at the upper A-pillar near the grab handle. hmmm...guessing bad windshield install.

I'll keep watching to see what the heck is going on.
