All,

I originally posted this in the members only forum but wanted to post it up here to see if anyone would be interested in participating in a Disaster/Emergency Preparedness and Response Training class that is offered through the Commerce City emergency response manager Kirk Dominic. The class would most likely be held at the Commerce City administration building which is located just west of Dicks Sporting Goods park.

The Disaster/Emergency Preparedness and Response Training (DEPART) is around 12 hours of training with a lot of it being hands-on manipulative skills training. It can also be customize to meet the groups certain needs or time restraints. Training is normally done on a weekday night for 3 hours (6-9pm) followed by one Saturday 8am-5pm). Some of the subjects that are covered:

1. Disaster/Emergency Preparedness and Response

2. Fire/home safety (evacuation plans, operation of a fire extinguisher using live fire, utility controls)

3. Disaster/Emergency Medical Operations/First Aid (patient triaging, making and applying splits, control severe bleeding using tourniquets, packing wounds, treating sucking chest wounds/injuries, etc.)

4. Search and Rescue Operations of a structure and triaging a damage structure

5. Moving heavy objects with hand tools and using cribbing for stabilization

6. Active shooter/killer awareness

7. Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS)

8. Terrorism awareness

9. Severe Cold Weather/Winter Preparedness

UPDATE 4/06/2019: A hard date has been set for this training. The training sessions will take place on Thursday May 30th from 6pm to 9pm and on Saturday June 1st from 8am to 5pm. I will be providing lunch on Saturday (pizza if thats ok). The typical class size is about 20 people so if by chance we exceed that we can schedule an additional class at a later date. This training has been added to the RS calendar.

Date/time/location?

That's kind of what I am trying to work out Jeff. If I can nail down a number of people who want to attend I can set up a date and time. Right now Kirk needs a few weeks of prep time prior to running the class. There is no specific number required of people for the class. We could have 1 to 25 people.

The location of the training would take place at the Commerce City administration building just on the west side of Dicks Sporting Goods Park, soccer field.

Typically Kirk will do a 3 hour - Thursday training session followed by an 8 hour full day Saturday or Sunday.

I'm interested, this sounds NICE! However, it will depend on which date on whether or not I can go.

I'm interested, will need to limbo around work schedule or enough time in advance to request time off. For me weekend (Saturday and Sunday) class would be the best. But I'm flexible.

Right meow I will be looking tentatively to schedule a class at the end of February or early March and for people who can't do those dates I will see if we can schedule a follow up class in June sometime after CM. More to follow in the next couple of days.

Thanks for setting this up man! Let us chip in for pizza! It's the least we could all do and we definitely don't want you to eat that cost by yourself.
