Can I borrow your 17mm flare wrench and seal puller? How long does this take? How much $$? Can I wait a few months to fix it?

Shoot, crap.. not what I wanted to be working on right now.

Power Steering?? I got some tools sitting in the garage that need some work out, opened the doors just for the plesure of using the tool box again the other day while having dinner with the folks. Maybe I can lend a hand some sunny(weekend) day?....

You can borrow my tools and I'd be happy to help. Takes a long time the first time when you have never seen it done. I was going to pay Robbie to rebuild my old one so I could use it on Sarah's truck. If you want you could use it and then pay Robbie to rebuild yours and replace it. OR buy a new one like I did.

Now aren't you glad I documented the steps?

Mine was fine till the cold weather snap.

You may be on to something with the cold weather... until I bought your 40 the 80 slept inside all the time, but last winter it saw quite a bit of driveway time at night. It's back in the garage now, but I've been going up to the house a lot particularly when it's cold & snowy (I feel better plowing with the Scout knowing the 80 is there to yank it out if it gets stuck or dies, and yes it's died a couple times). Over Christmas it was easily below 0 too.. maybe that pushed it over the edge.

BTW, did you get the startup zing? Did it go away with the new PS pump? OTOH, when it warms up the seal should swell and I'll be good for another 6 months, right?

You could get the lucas power steering fluid with seal sweller(it that is a word), and it will save you for a little while.

New pump is $247 at the discount price. You can do the rebuild for $45. Dan told me its easy to get the vanes in wrong in the way. I figured I would buy a new one and then rebuild it for Sarah's truck.

The High pressure line is $197 and mine was also leaking. Couldn't see that until I took it out.

yeah, christo said the h.p. line is fairly common. do you still have the old line? i'd like to see if one could be built locally cheaper.

i've got the stuff to rebuild (seal kit and bearing), but mine's growls badly, so i wonder if rebuilding will even fix it.

Not sure if they can. I cut it 1 inch back of the fitting on the hard pipe.

Have done one or two, has been a while though. Two heads are better than one though..... Would be fun to get the tools dirty again:)
