We got dad's head back from the machine shop and a new OEM gasket kit from Cdan. Today is the day it all goes back together. He is doing all the work, I'm not allowed to lift anything quite yet.

Almost....

The head is back in and we lashed the valves cold. It runs and idles but still has a stumble at low RPMs. We should have it going strong with another days work. It got dark and was raining so we called it a night.

Nice! I learned a lot about 79+ 40s from that photo. I didn't realize the next to rear x-member doesn't curve up at the driveline, but makes sense if the e-brakes are not behind the t-case. I knew about the round versus square body mounts. Looks like the cat's gone. I had fogotten the fuel tank was so centered. What's that looped hardline behind the fuel tank? Looks like the kind of P/S fluid loop you see under radiators or on the front fenderwell.

The cuts on the inside bottoms of the fenderwells look pretty clean. Sawzall?

on the ps, it's the "cooler", so i'd guess fuel cooler, but it's an odd place to put it.

New floor is almost in(needs tacked) and the rear sill is complete. My dad sent me this picture with the tire carrier installed!
