So we are going to Costa Rica for a week in June, fun! Anyone have suggestions on cool stuff to do, bad stuff to avoid, and most importantly any Land Cruiser stuff! Especially looking for a good rental car place to get a fun Toyota to drive...

Thanks all! I'll bring back a LOT of Toyota pics 😁

My wife and I went in 2017 for a week. Not sure about cool car rentals. We just picked up something little from the airport, but we had a cool trek through the jungle to get to our Airbnb.
We flew into Liberia and drove about three hours to Playa Nosara. It was a fantastic adventure, complete with several small water crossings and monkeys running along the path through the jungle.
Howler monkeys were everywhere, the food was amazing and we zip lined with a company called Miss Sky. At the time, they claimed they had the world’s highest and longest zip line. It was fantastic.
Enjoy your trip, Costa Rica is a real gem and there is plenty of great things to do.

We did a similar trip in ā€˜24, flew into Liberia and stayed in Nosara. Rented from Hertz and our vehicles were 2 brand new Prados. They were awesome and nice to have. We had a couple crazy thunderstorms while we were there that turned the mainly dirt roads into rivers. And the roads to the air B and B were sporty. Also had legit river crossings while touring the coast line. Didn’t get too crazy with activities. Surfed and hung out on the beach. Drove to Tamarindo one day, I wouldn’t go there again.
In Nosara there was a custom vehicle dealer BlackBox? They had a bunch of built 70 series and a 40 in a glass case.

We flew into Liberia as well last year. I rented a Prado from enterprise, they kept trying to give me a Ford Explorer equivalent saying it was more luxurious but I insisted on the Prado and they gave me one. We stayed inland at a place on Lake Arenal. The ziplining was probably everyones favorite part of the trip. We also did some tubing which was a day after a big storm and the water was moving! It was too fast and scary for some of the little kids in the group but wouldve been a blast if it was the right group of people.

I did run into an issue with insurance on the rental in Costa Rica. I had heard of issues with this so I tried to cover my bases here before we left. I got an international drivers license. (Unnecessary) I got international car rental insurance through AAA. Turns out Hertz wouldn’t accept it. I talked to Hertz before we left to confirm our rental quote was accurate and nothing would be added at the time of pick up. This was not the case. When we picked up the vehicles the guy at the rental counter had a new quote of double our online reservation due to NEEDING Costa Rican insurance through Hertz. I was pretty irritated about this. After calmly talking with the guy at the counter šŸ™„ he said a CDW? form from the credit card company that I booked with would be ok and cover the insurance issue. CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) I called my CC company and they emailed me this form that I was able to forward to the guy, and then everything went back to the original quote or close to it if I remember correctly? It was a frustrating deal but worked out in the end. Bring a CDW form with you šŸ‘. Maybe this is common knowledge but I was unaware of it.

I did not have any issues with this when I rented through Enterprise and did not need any kind of extra forms with my rental. But it sounds like something worth looking into.
