A proper surgical or N95 mask is 10-15% effective at the absolute most when worn correctly. 99% of the people either wear them incorrectly, or they are old and crumpled, or they have a home-made mask which are 0% effective. Mask mandates are *literally* just for show.

Whats the source of this N95 data?

This pretty much says it all.

I have probably learned more from Peter Robinson than I did in college. I guess that's my mistake for wasting 4 years in arts school.

Purely anecdotal but my wife and I both had Covid earlier this month. We are both 30 and pretty healthy. I had minor cold symptoms for 3 days. She was the same for about 5. Maybe a slightly worse headache and sinus pressure. Neither of us had any respiratory symptoms thankfully.

We both recovered fully in a week I ran an easy marathon (not a race we both did our 10 day required quarantine) a week after my positive test and I got a PR on my 50k time later the same month. Neither of us had the vaccine.

Most of our office staff who were vaccinated had a much worse reaction than the non vaccinated when they got it, which they all did regardless of vaccine status.

One of my clients and his wife just tested positive after two doses and a booster. They always wear masks, even in their own home.....

Just my personal experience with all of this. Not giving out any medical advice.

Our family/friends have seen more than our fair share of Covid, but luckily none have become fatality statistics. My sister ran Boston a couple weeks after she had it. Her time was slower and she was pretty drained afterwards, but she's fine. Outside of the economy, the biggest tragedy of the last 24 months has been the impact failed policies have had on kids and the elderly. I can't help but cringe every time I see a small child with a mask on. Mandating vaccines for kids . . . it's so stupid. Focused care and rapid at home tests are the way to go. Fauci needs to step down, all the mandates need to end. It's time to move on.

I got my booster about 15 days ago. My original two shots were Moderna and my booster was Pfizer. The only way I could get a Moderna booster out in Monterey was to either wait into mid-December or to travel several hours away to a different county where vaccination rates are abysmal compared to the rest of California -- plenty of shots available there. So we decided to mix-and-match. The third shot's effects were more mild than the second shot for me. The first 12-16 hours I had no symptoms and then I felt a bit under the weather for about 12 hours. Next booster I'll try to get the J&J shot so I can collect the whole set.

My county went back into masks-required mode for a few weeks in October and early November before the county commissioners decided it was hurting tourism too much. They decided to justify their decision to rescind the latest mask mandate by switching from using CDC data to local data. They had agreed months ago to use CDC data when they instituted an auto-triggered mask mandate that would only happen after a certain threshold was reached. Now that a few hotels are angry, they suddenly switch to local data. Seemed like cherry-picking data to me. The county north of us (Santa Cruz) has had higher case counts and hospitalizations for a while, and has been in mask mode as a result. No sign of them letting their guard down.

The vast majority of businesses I have been into have all employees masked. Some businesses are still enforcing their own mask mandates akin to no shoes, no shirt, no service rules.

I have had side effects from covid a year and a half afterwards. I've spent thousands seeing specialists to get it fixed. Covid was pretty hard on me. I've had it twice. The second time I got it, it was less severe but brought back my long term issues back at full force. The first time I got it i struggled with my breathing. I stayed awake for days to make sure I didn't stop breathing. My coworkers mother in law just died from covid. She was older and unvaccinated. Another coworker got covid that is a body builder, trains in jujitsu constantly, extremely fit, unvaccinated, never wears a mask. He was in the hospital for a long time and barely pulled through. He lost 35lbs while sick. He carries a oxygen bottle now because of the damage to his lungs. Others I know get only mildly sick. From what I've observed, if you get covid bad, you better be very healthy and fit. I personally would reject a ventilator. I have not heard of any vaccinated dying from covid personally.
