Rising Sun Members - Several weeks ago when we thought the Pike/San Isabel (PSI) DEIS release was imminent; it has been delayed twice, here is a current statement on their website:
PSI Motorized Travel Management (MVUM) Analysis
The Pike and San Isabel National Forests are working on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Motorized Travel Management (MVUM). This process designates roads and trails open to motorized use
Public Commenting Period and Public Meetings
After the DEIS is finalized, a Notice of Availability will be published in the in the Federal Register. Publication initiates a 45-day comment period for all interested or affected parties to provide comments. A series of public meetings will take place during that period to gather public feedback.
Meeting Locations:
Salida – Date to be determined
Pueblo – Date to be determined
Denver – Date to be determined
Colorado Springs – Date to be determined
Please check back for updates to Motorized Travel Management planning.
Read the MVUM planning documents https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=48214
I have also attached a word document that list the trails we know to be on the list to be closed and those that people have commented they want closed

4th Quarter State Association Meeting
We still do not have a Club that has stepped forward and offered to host the 3rd Qtr Meeting. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 19th form Noon - 4:00 PM however we have some flexibility. Saturday, October 26th would also work. If your club is interested in hosting the meeting, please let me know as soon as possible.

Re-Branding of the Colorado Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs?
This was briefly discussed at the 3rd Qtr meeting, but what it means is may include:
1. Doing an Annual Convention once a year (late January early February) in lieu of four quarterly meetings!
2. Promoting and supporting all member events and other 4x4 activities in Colorado!
3. Networking and Partnering with the ATV/SxS/UTV Associations, Clubs, Groups and Rental Companies. They use our trails, we need to get them to be part of the solution to keeping them opened and maintained. This is also a focus area for COHVCO, ORBA, Stay The Trail and United 4WD Association.
4. Doing the same with the Social Media Clubs and Groups that also use 4x4 trails in Colorado!
5. Changing the name of the Colorado Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs, Inc. (COA4WDCI) to the Colorado Four Wheel Drive Association, Inc. (CO4WDA)!

Other Reminders!
1. The Deadline for submitting your Volunteer Hours for 2019 is September 30th! Please report all you hours to Adam Melhberg at 3jeeps@4x4explore.com or via the link on our website: http://www.coa4wdci.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=331&club_id=873637&item_id=8228
Even if you reported your hours or turned in a volunteer form locally to the NFS/BLM, please report them to Adam. This is critically important as it shows how much we all do to help keep our trails open and maintained each year!
2. We need a Treasurer! Ige has been relocated out of State with her job. Not a hard job, but a critical one.
3. We still need a Northern District Vice President, even easier than being Treasurer.

Continued support is needed to attend meeting and lobby to keep trails open and available. Please bring your questions to the meeting.

Just so it's not lost as to how important it is and continues to be to pay attention, the current MVUM revision will likely impact at least these trails.

There were several trails listed as ‘contested’ in the lawsuit that were temporarily closed until travel management was complete. The most popular ones are:
  • Twin Cone in South Platte District, FSR 126
  • Hackett Gulch in South Park, FSR 220/220A/220B still closed due to Hayman Fire
  • Longwater Gulch in South Park, FSR221 still closed due to Hayman Fire
  • Corral Creek in South Park, FSR 540 still closed due to Hayman Fire

Additional trails not listed as ‘contested’ but ones I feel are in danger of being closed based on the TAP comments that were released as part of a spreadsheet are:
  • Clohesy Lake, FSR 381
  • Slide Lake, FSR 145
  • Halfmoon/Champion Mill Mine in Leadville, FSR 110
  • South Halfmoon/Iron Mike Mine in Leadville, FSR 110J
  • Lost Canyon, FSR 398
  • Wheeler Lake, FSR408, north of Alma
  • Red Cone, FSR 565 and Webster Pass, FSR 121, north of Webster
  • Cooney Lake, FSR 452
  • Peerless Mountain, FSR 603
  • Grizzy Lake, FSR 296, South of Buena Vista near St. Elmo
  • Tin Cup, FSR 267, portion from St. Elmo to Tin Cup Pass
  • Ptarmigan Lake/Grassy Gulch, FSR 349
  • Williams Pass, FSR 298.A
  • Bald Mountain Loop, FSR 300.B1
  • Eagle Rock, FSR 370C & Saran Wrap, FSR 370D off Gold Camp Road, FSR 370 Pike National Forest between Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek
