Who would be interested in a run to Chinns Lake this Saturday? Maybe a little fishing and if it is packed, we can hit Yankee Hill on way home. Also would appreciate suggestions on less visited lakes in same area.

thanks,

Todd

Hey Todd, is this part of the other thread you started? I’d be down, still. :)

Still planning to join. I’ll be camping Friday night on Kingston Peak with the FJ40’s.

What time and were do you want to meet Saturday?

how about we meet at the trailhead for the Chinns Lake road at 9AM? It looks like you can get there from the Kingston Peak road. I have both HAM and GMRS, so let me know which one works for you and what channel to monitor. Happy to get out and we can check out the lakes and hit Yankee Hill on the way out. Never been to any of these areas, but don’t think any feature will be too much for our trucks, having seen the 4 runner in action before.

This is the evolved plan, since the 40 guys are running Kingston and don’t want to be bothered by modern vehicles with bigger engines, AC, and good sound systems.😎. Let me know where you are coming from and we can meet up before the trailhead. Are you running the 73 or the 200?

Loch Lomond is right down the road from there and open if you need another quick trail to hit. I did Chinn's lake last month and tried to get to Loch Lomond was closed then. Its open now though.

Could go over Kingston, but for an extra 15 minutes, I can go around and not have to plan on doing it alone.

HAM only, no GMRS (yet).
I'll be on 147.420

I've run Loch Lomond before. Simple out-n-back if you want to head to another lake. No idea what the fishing is like.

I used to go up to Loch Lomond and float tube, we would troll around and catch small lake trout. If your in for a hike you can go up the old trail to west of the lake and catch some beautiful native cutthroat. You used to be able to drive up there in the old days.

That gave me a good chuckle 😂

No offense to the newer trucks but nothing to me is more Land Cruiser than a 40

I have a great 60 but still miss my 40 , so jealous

Maybe we ought to hold a retro or 60s only run

Pre 1990

Driving an older cruiser is a relationship that cannot be described unless you have thrown a hand over a thin cracked cold hard steering wheel
Pure joy !!!

My comment was more than slightly tongue in cheek, as i was told that only 40s were welcome on one of the public trails I was considering for this weekend. Trust me, I owned a 1973 FJ40 with a 3 speed while i was at CU Boulder in the 1980s and loved it for driving around town and wheeling the Switzerland trail and other places above town. However, when I had to drive it back and forth to my home in CA, it was less than fun for a long road trip. Then moved on to a 1987 FJ60, which I loved even though it was gutless in the mountains. Finally returned to the LC world with the purchase of a new 2007 100 series, which we left totally stock until 3 years ago. I bought a 1979 FJ43 from Colombia and spent a lot of time tricking it out to wheel. Although it was a lot of fun to take it up to the T-33 site, it sucked driving it up Boulder Canyon to get to the trail. It also could not get above 65mph on the highway and was less than stable at that speed. Finally realized that I needed a V8 to give me the power I needed. Started to look at 60 conversions, but then realized I lacked mechanical ability to maintain a Chevy motor with Japanese wiring harness and transmission. Then I looked at my stock 2007 100 series and realized it was the perfect platform to build on. Sold the 43 and have been building the 100 ever since. Trust me, I have enjoyed every cruiser I have owned, and still lust over a lhd 73 series, but the 100 is what works best for me now.

I’ll be coming from Longmont, and could bring either rig. They both have AC. :) What time and where?

For some reason, I wasn’t getting notifications from this thread, so sorry about the late reply.

Just getting caught up. Yep, We’ll see you at Chin’s Lake trailhead at 9! I’ll be running ham, and bringing the 200, since the fridge is already in it.

My 200 is currently less built than the 73 (no winch), but looking at some YouTube videos, it looks not technical, just rocky.

Now, what flies are you bringing? :)

Excellent! Will be on 147.420 and will bring a bunch of flies. If it is a zoo, we can hit Loch Lomond as well.

name is Todd. How about you?

Gino, KJ7JGE. I’ll have Starla and two Aussie Shepherds with me (Abi and Angus), in a black 200 series.

Is there an actual trail other than the road to the lake?

Fun to meet you and Starla. Welcome back to CO and glad to share the high country with you both and Alex today. Fun to watch the convoy of 40’s. Sorry to take your beautiful 200 on such tight trails.
