Next episode in broken bolt adventures:
I took off the nerf bars (which I think looks better except now my 10 year old complains that "yOuR cAr iS tOo TaLL"). In that process one of the bolts broke because it was rusted in really bad. I was attempting the drill / heat / bolt extractor routine again, but this time the whole captive nut just broke off under the end plate for the bar:
This leaves me with a nice hole but with no threads.
I'm starting to think that these nerf bars are just done and too rusted to repair without cutting out the end plates and welding in something new, but wanted to ask if anyone has any magical ideas for repairing this, especially without welding.
