I just moved into the area so I thought Blaca Peak would be a good place to get back in the 4X4 game. My last trip was last Oct in Southern UT. Blanca Peak is a real challenge. I'd like to hear how far anybody else has made it up that one. I parked at the twin cabins just before the Holbrook creek crossing. I did not know it at the time but those cabins are just past the first "shark fin". There was no way I was going to make it past that creek crossing. I hiked up to the first lake after parking and it was worth the effort. I have attached my DECENT route and the one best picture at the lake. OK then GET OUT.

I found one more pic when I parked at Holbrook creek. My T4R is just visible at the top but I think it shows how difficult it would be to cross that creek with my setup.

Blanca Peak is definitely on the harder end of the scale. If you liked that level of difficulty, consider checking out Spring Creek and Yansing Gulch. If you'd prefer something a little tamer, you're in the right place -- most of our runs are not at the Blanca level.

Blanca IS a challenging trail and if you were traveling solo you made the right call to park your vehicle and hike up. Several years back a group of five or six of us made it to the top of the trail and then drove back to the trees and made camp there for the night, right at tree line. Excellent spotting made the trip up easier but there were still some areas that seat puckering was definitely happening. One off camber slab obstacle had us all out of our trucks to inspect it and I think each of us was hoping someone else would be the first to do it. Everyone made it but it made us think and we all earned our campfire beverages. The trip back down the next day was easier but still had its difficult moments. Good times. 👍
Nice pics!

Even with a good spot I don't think my 3 inch (at best) lift would have cleared most obstacles beyond the twin cabins. Full length skids and a winch will only get you so far.

Is that a Tacoma (yours?) in the picture? What size tires are you running? The day we went there was a buggy on 40s, two or three 80s, a Tacoma and my 62 on 35s. No rope was pulled nor was any strapping done. Not sure I’d try it again on 33s.
