Anybody running the new rock crawler series on their rig, comments, thoughts?

1985 4runner 35" tires, 4" lift, dual cases, currently running 12" travel pronbably the same w/ the 9100's.

Can anybody decpher the Optional Linear Valvings: 180/75 (03) 275/78 (05) 360/80 (06) 255/100 (07)

I run 5100's but have never run the higher series. The valving numbers increase dampening as you go higher, and the first number is rebound and the second is compression. 180/75 is fairly light valving (I run lighter valving like this on my 80, but I also have progressive rate springs), 275/78 is near Bilstein's "standard" spec of 255/70 for a mid to full size 4x4 in a lifted application, and 360/80 would probably be for offroad racing or a fullsize SUV.

255/100 is an interesting valving spec as you are getting a very firm compression setting without increasing rebound. Probably very good for a lighter rig that has a lot of sway onroad. I am only speculating here, but I'd think this valving is paired with pretty soft springs to limit excessive compression and the resulting need for very tight rebound control.

Have you looked at Bilstein's standard valving chart? They have a 5100 for a 4" lift for the 1986-1990 Runner, you might call Bilstein to get valving on those shocks. If I am picking, it's 275/78 for a Runner front and rear on leaf springs, but I'd call them to compare the 5100 valving. Here's a link to the 5100 application chart:

Just adding a bit...I ran 5125's on the rear of my 80 and had mixed feelings about them. I really liked the control and how it handled jarring bumps.

I did not like however how it made the rig feel bouncy over "dips" The rig felt less in control as it did with the OME's. On the 4 runner with less weight, it might not be an issue, especially with leaf springs might be a WHOLE different story.
