In the past 6 months, we've gotten more scammers on the forum than ever before. The new scammers operate through private messages (aka "Conversations") sent to one person. It's always a referral to a "friend" with an outlook.com or gmail.com email address who happens to have the exact part for sale. We just saw another variation with a phone number rather than an email address. People think, "Oh this must be legit." The result is sending money via PayPal or Venmo that can never be recovered.
Here's an example:
1. Beware of referrals from people you don't know on the forum, especially if they have a very low post count.
2. Report scams to our moderation team!
We have significantly tightened the requirements for joining the RS forum. Every single new forum member request is now reviewed manually by our moderation team. We are trying to reject the scammers during the registration process. But some of them are going to slip past, and we want to make sure you recognize these scams for what they are.
