Film? Yeppers...

I've wanted one of these for so many years. One popped up on eBay in basically brand new condition with 3 lenses (50, 80 and 150). Price was surprisingly on my side too. I've only put 3 (2 B&W, 1 color) rolls through it so far but, to say it's a joy to use would be an understatement.

Using it is very purposeful. Slow. Thoughtful. Tactile. Shooting square is a great exercise and looking at a 6x6 negative on a light table is a wonderful thing. The reversed image on the focus screen is taking some getting used to though.

More soon.

Welcome back.

Some very few of us never left. I still run the FM3a, M3 and XA except for hasty web shots for Craigslist. I will until it really, really gets to be a PITA. I haven't done any B&W in a while since I don't have space for a dark room, though. I really miss that about the old house, having a basement and/or extra baths.

I need to figure out a way to share our bathroom but hogging the water closet doesn't make momma happy after a while...

The upside of 900 sq-ft of craptacular is the nice and low monthly. It's significantly less than a car payment for our abode.

awesome!

totally awesome! I got a hand-me-down 70's full manual film camera last year. (yep...need a light meter). I recommend to ANYONE who has only shot digital to shoot like 10 rolls of film at some point. it's a great way to refresh yourself with the basics. :thumb:

Thanks. I haven't been around much as we've been dodging some curve balls lately. Still no replacement truck, which is driving me slightly nutso, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed it'll be soon.

Dave, I never truly left film. It's where I started. I scored a Nikon FM with a 50/2 at a garage sale down the street. All it needed was a new battery and tweak on the spring for the winder. Good as new and the pictures are fantastic.

I've been considering building another darkroom as well. I haven't committed because I don't have a film scanner. For you, doing something small shouldn't be too difficult. At least to develop. Printing might be another issue. Watch this and check out his development setup in his kitchen.

Been kicking around the idea of restarting my studio. I've got some good ideas that I think should work well here. Another thing to keep my fingers crossed about.

Took the Hassy street shooting downtown the other day. That was the color roll that I'm still waiting to get back from the lab. Quite fun. The looks I got from folks were priceless. I need to do more of that.

Very cool. I'm a fan, even though it's been years since I shot any film myself.

So, I've been wandering around downtown a bit with the Hasselblad. People look at me like I've walked out of a time warp. Someone this afternoon asked me if I was a tourist. It's cool though. The camera is an absolute pleasure to use.

Slowly getting back into the groove. The woman at the FedEx office knows me by name now. There's something about not knowing what's on the roll that I love. Did I meter it correctly? Was it in focus? Did that composition really work? There's no going back and deleting it.

After years of shooting for the surf magazines, I've always been a Fuji guy both with the slide and print film. Velvia always gives such tremendous color saturation and the blues are almost electric. But, with the Hassy, I've been shooting Kodak Portra and I must say, the scans are absolutely wonderful.

Portra 400. Shot at 200 but processed normal. Yields just enough of a saturation and contrast boost. Wonderful stuff this film.

Scans from today's downtown walkabout should be back towards the end of next week. Expecting some other scans next week as well from the salvage yard/art installation place out in Erie. Super bummed that place is permanently closed.

I was kinda bummed to find this place closed. Always wanted to wander around inside with a camera. Had to settle for outside.

waiting for film to come back is kinda nice. i've got rolls out from some wanderings in toronto and boulder as well as some skiing. if valmont is dry tomorrow, i'm going to try and ride a bit then shoot a bit. asking folks for their portrait is easier with the old hassleblad as most are a bit confused when they see it.

if you're interested, i've got tumblr and instagram feeds running.
