84 FJ60 How do I remove the shifters?

Im about to take the body off my 60 and it would be a lot easier to do if the shifters weren't sticking up out of the tranny tunnel. Everything is diconnected and the body is ready to come off except for those darn shifters and I can't figure out how to get them out for the life of me.

push down and turn for the tranny. There is a metal piece that's notched and holds them in place. The t-case should be bolted on the side of the tranny I think....at least on the 40's 55's it is.

Yeah after a closer look, the t-case looks easy, I'll go try to push the tranny shifter down, my Chiltons says something about needing a special tool.
