Been a while since I’ve been able to report. Bridger got his first ever big game harvest this morning. A nice mule deer doe. 5th season private land tag down this way. I’ve got the same tag and should be able to shoot one next week. Finally was able to gain access to some good private property.

Hunting started off the usual for us. We went out to scout and hunt grouse. I bought an old double barrel Steven’s and we had some fun with it. Saw lots of elk and some good bulls. 1st season was rough, it finally started to rain and it was muddy and a mess. Tuesday evening before opening morning we spotted a huge bull, largest I’ve ever seen hunting. The next morning the heard was in the flat bugling. We hoped the mas grande was there but when it was light enough to see he wasn’t there. Just some smaller bulls and a 5x that any public land hunter would be happy with. Never saw the mas grande again and another bull never presented itself. Proud that he had a plan and stuck to it even though he didn’t get an elk. Hunting is so much more than the harvest. I went out late season and didn’t see any cows.

Finally late pronghorn season and Wyatt was able to connect after several days. He missed with my gun so we put the scope back in his gun, hit the range to dial it in. We forgot the can at home :(👂

Second ever time out this year. 4th rifle cow. Last year I got a shot but my scope was a mile off. My fault for not spending more time and ammo at the range. This year I was hitting bullseyes at 400yd but didn't even see an elk. My planned spots along migration routes were crawling with other hunters, unlike last year. Two hunters I know got kills in the same vicinity so the elk must be around. Family issues ended my season early and I may just opt for a preference point next year for the same reason. I know they say not to wish it away but hunting makes me envy retired empty nesters.

Elk hunting down here was rough this year. We didn’t even see elk on our normal grounds. Was way warmer than usual and the only theory is that they were still up high. I need to go retrieve my game camera yet. It will be interesting to see if it recorded anything since 3rd season. We still don’t have snow on the ground at 8100’. Sloppy snow/rain mix right now.

We might need to explore new opportunities for elk moving forward. Hunting from the house is a luxury that I really enjoy. But not fun if there isn’t anything to hunt.

Took a walk out yesterday to retrieve a game camera. This year had the least amount of elk activity around our home that I've ever witness or shall I say didn't witness. Looking at the photos I believe I now know why. This is not the first time I've seen one, in fact I've seen them in my yard. But its the first time I've picked one up on a game camera. I generally place this cam in the same place every year. So I'm thinking we have more puma activity than in the past.
