BLOW OFF WORK AND GO WHEELIN' RUN 2022

This year, the summer solstice is on 6/21, so Wed. June 29 will provide many daylights to enjoy.

So block out the afternoon on your work calendar. You need to get your ass out of the desk chair and go wheelin'.

DATE: Wednesday, June 29, 2022
Meeting time: 1:00 p.m. Depart @ 1:30 p.m.

WHERE: We've held this run for two decades on Slaughterhouse Gulch near Bailey, Colo. It's a good beginner trail with some fun obstacles and a great overlook towards the end. But I'm wondering if we should change it up? Anyone have a good trail to suggest?

We could go run Red Cone but that's a longer trail — maybe too long for an afternoon run?

UPDATE ON SUNDAY, JUNE 26

I'd like to run Red Cone this summer, but I'm concerned about snow and starting in the afternoon. Maybe we can blow off work another day in July and start in the morning rather than the afternoon.

So let's go run Slaughterhouse Gulch. For those who have run this trail before, it's fun and scenic. If you're new-ish to the club, it's a great first run to do with Rising Sun.

Let's meet at 1:00 pm at the SAFEWAY in Conifer. Address is: 27152 Main St, Conifer, CO 80433
(Yes, we've met at the King Soopers in the past, but there is a Sonic in the same parking lot at the Safeway).

Looking forward to this one, especially if it can be a Red Cone run. Maybe we could do like the rally runs and have two groups? One on Slaughterhouse and one on Red Cone? Might suggest starting the Red Cone run an hour earlier or something...

I would totally be up for running Red Cone and meeting at noon for it. As Farr would say, "Hell yeah!" (y)

I'm sitting stock height tires and suspension, how friendly is Red Cone? I do have sliders for the rocks...

It's probably doable. Do you have a locker?

I don’t know. It’s tougher than it used to be…

Last year Red Cone opened 6/26 by volunteers. Handcart Gulch was closed due to snow: Webster/Handcart didn't open until 7/13:

So Red Cone was one-way from 285 through to Keystone; no return back to 285 until 7/13.

2020: Red Cone open 6/27 and Webster 7/26.
2019: Red Cone open after 7/26 and Webster after 7/28.
2018: Red Cone open 6/16 and Webster 7/16.

Have run slaughterhouse a few times and did not find it very challenging. Ran Red Cone once in October with my teenage son in the truck and destroyed my rear bumper on the one nasty rock in the main obstacle and then ran into a snow squall a few miles before the summit. Of course, that was in the 100 and now the 80 is built for such things! I am down for doing Red Cone again and leaving slaughterhouse for the newbs run.

We did recone 3 or 4 years ago for the annual blowoff work and wheel. We ran red cone and than did radical hill. It was a good time.

Yeah but that was in august:
Red Cone usually opens in July, so that’s probably worth consideration. I don’t know what the snow pack looks like, but usually red cone opens before Webster pass which depending on how far people want to go should be thought about as well.
