My 2002 Land Cruiser won't go into programming mode for pairing a remote. I even rented a programming unit from Tom's Keys with no success.

I'm guessing that the control unit that operates the remote keyless entry is either broken or has been disabled by a P.O.

Does anyone know where it is and what it looks like?

Matt, I have full FSM for my 99 so I'll look around.

I've had this problem recently using the method that takes locking and unlocking sequences to enter programming mode. I suspect my lock motors are too tired to hit the multi lock cycle timing as they tend to be strong for a few throws then slow down and need a rest. I assume the programmer thing does not require this?

Try the gas pedal two step dance method. I have the same trouble with my door locks failing to cycle after about 3 lock unlocks.
The pedal dance has allowed me to program a couple of fobs to be recognized by the ECU and allows me to start the car.
I manually lock and unlock doors since I cant get to the programming mode for that function.
I have 1999 and 2000 LX470 so your mileage may vary.

There is a limited number of transponders that can be programed if I remember correctly. There is a guy on ih8mud by the name of Mauser who is the guru on this. I believe the main computer behind the glove box handles everything regarding the keys. I didn't have a master key when I bought my 100. I removed the computer and sent it to Mauser. He was able to flash it to accept a new master key. He would for sure be the person I would ask about this.

Yeah, Boulder Toyota warranty replaced the ECU on our first 100 (a 1999 we bought used) because there was no room for a new transponder to be programmed on it. Seemed silly to me but I wasn't going to complain.

I think this Matt guy was looking to fix his locks rather than his security/start interlock.
Hopefully he'll post up and let us know how it's all working out.
Great 100 key thread so far!
