Driving home from King Of The Hammers 2026 the front driveshaft having hammered into the transmission cooler hard lines enough to put a hole in the bellhousing (I don’t remember jumping it, but I did hit whoops pretty hard) resulted in loss of circulation, loss of some gears, and a whole bunch of drama, but I made it home. Escorted by another limousine.
I haven’t wanted to work on it for a variety of reasons, including fitting it in the driveway, but it is in the driveway now. I will start taking things apart Friday, July 17 after work when it starts to cool down. Give a holler and come and heckle me or work.
Plenty of opportunities to wrench. We have to disconnect the battery, remove the starter, disconnect the driveshaft, unbolt and separate some exhaust parts (easy bc stainless and v-band), disconnect linkages, unbolt and lower the transfer case (awkward), and finally unbolt and slide the transmission back and then lower it to the ground and roll it out on the jack. It’s actually not terrible and I know this because I had to do it another time or two definitely helps to have extra hands skill or semi skilled.
Supposed to be 92 towards the end of the day, but that’s at least not 97. I have fans and a garden hose. By that time of day, it’s mostly shaded.
A friend of a friend who builds transmissions from everything stock to drag racers as offered to help me rebuild it at his shop. Awesome!
