I think I have a bad upper passenger CV boot.

Any recommendations for a mechanic?

Robert. year and vehicle would help. Also what part of town?

When I need a Mechanic, I go to ToyCar Care, but I live on the south side. Not cheap, but good and fair.

On the other hand, CV Boots are not that hard to repair or replace. Major boot damage requires taking the CV off, which can be done at home in your garage and a rebuild kit is inexpensive if your CV is in good shape

Any pictures of the area of concern?

This guy was at the Coloyota Expo. He's a mobile mechanic -- he will come to you! I met him and he seemed like a good dude. I have been planning to use him for some maintenance in the future.

If this is Eric, I met him earlier this week and he seems like a good guy. Can’t attest to his skills but he does drive a 4Runner and is getting his mobile service off the ground.

Yes, should have been more informative. 2019 4RUNNER and I am in Arvada.
I did review some videos and I can probably do it. But I guess I might not want to...

I spoke with him. Might be an option. Thanks for the reminder.

10x for Eric! He has done work on a couple of my rigs, I have been very happy with his work ethic, knowledge, and quality of work. In fact he will be working with me on replacing my LX alternator. Send me a message if you want details!

Yes sir this is Erik from Easy E’s mobile auto and I can help you out! I could do a new boot kit for 150 labor or a new axle for 75 labor. Let me know what you’re thinking I have availability this week and the next. My number is 7207240745

If the axle is original Toyota, I'd recommend replacing the boot with a Toyota replacement boot kit. Although I'm not sure if they offer the diff side replacement kit? You can't bet the quality of the original OEM axle.

I'm maybe a bit confused since the axle boots are usually referred to as inner (diff side) and outer (hub side) instead of upper/lower. But the kits I've used from Toyota for the 1991 and the 2008 both were complete, both boots, 4 clamps, two pouches of grease (the inner and outer use different kinds of grease). I want to say they also included a new C-clip. Pretty sure.

Another thing is the stock axles and aftermarket ones may not have the same intermediate shaft or outer joint shell circumferences so the boot kits aren't necessarily interchangeable. If you have an OEM CV axle you really should get the boot kit from Toyota so you know it'll fit. What comes in aftermarket rebuilds might be a factory axle, might not, not sure there's any guarantee of what you're getting. It might fit like you're snugging your belt on pants two waist sizes too big, you know with the bunched up places for your grease to leak out.

I'm 100% on board with you, keep your original axles and rebuild them. The only way I'd give up original axles is as a core for factory rebuilt ones and even then I might suck it up and eat the core charge. As long as you're diligent and don't drive 500 miles through sand and mud with open boots anyway...

In Moab years ago, I bought an aftermarkect CV axle for Rachels 4runner because it was available. It snapped the next day on the trail

Rebuilt the OEM we took out and lasted as long as she owned the truck (years) and likely still going strong
