I know the Superwinch brand is arguably the best as far as winches go but I also know from discussions during Bill Burke training that the company itself has had it's issues over the last couple of years. I know he doesn't have anything good to say about the Tiger Shark but I don't know much about any of their other products. I saw an ad on FB marketplace for a LP10000 for $250 that I thought was an absolute smoking deal until I looked what they were going for on the interwebs brand new. Amazon has the best price at $439 with free shipping.

I'm thinking that being able to buy a Superwinch branded winch for just a little bit more than a Hobo Freight Badlands has to be too good to be true. What am I missing here? @jps8460 you are pretty familiar with Superwinch, what say you?

I bought my ep9 super winch on Amazon for like 500 a while back. Cheapest place by far. I k ow different models but for quality vs price and free shipping, I e been quite happy.

Wow. How does that sell for less money than a decent Harbor Freight winch????

There's no doubt that Superwinch *used* to be a premier brand. Superwinch was sold in early 2019 to Westin, the company that makes nerf bar steps and cosmetic bull bars, and moved from Oregon to California.

Corporate ownership alone doesn't mean anything, though. Long prior to the buy-out they'd already shifted some production overseas and that's the reality for many companies. So ultimately you're buying the reputation and customer support.

At this point I'd mostly be concerned that they're a name being slapped on winches coming off the same commodity line, but Bill probably has the longest relationship with them as anyone so his $0.02 is more like $2.00.

Not real sure about that particular Superwinch but I'd consider the added cost of a synthetic line and a decent hook on top of the other possible issues and maybe just get a synth rope ComeUp instead?

As much as I love my Talon, I’m not up to speed on the rest of the lineup. I think it comes down to your budget and what kind of wheeling you plan to do. If winching is something you expect to be doing when it’s cold, rainy, and far from service, then save up the money and buy the best gear you can afford. If it’s for correcting goofups in moab or ouray, then grab a budget winch and use your brain when you’re at the dollhouse alone :).

Yeah, I've been holding out for either a good used Warn or older Superwinch and is why I haven't just bought a different branded cheap one already. Although I have personal experience with a 12,000# Badlands and have used it on a buddy's car hauler (a 53' angled deck 5th wheel) dozens of times without fail, I still don't buy one for myself for the fact that I still don't 100% trust it to get me out of a pinch way out in the middle of nowhere.

This discussion wasn't so much on whether or not I should buy a cheap winch but really about not realizing Superwinch had an entry level offering at a pretty good price. I've been bit by the "too good to be true" scenario more times than I like to admit so I'm probably going to pass on this one this time....maybe. ;)
