I've been texting with Richard. He lives just north of Wellington. This is a pretty good deal. His family has owned it since it was new so they want it to go to a good home.

1972 FJ40 For Sale

All original except for Man-a-fre fuel cell and Alcon springs
Odometer is non functional and stuck at 396k. Original engine was rebuilt in 1998. Have records.
Was a trailer queen from 1998-2007. Never been on its side or rolled.
Has been used around our ranch since.
Mild rust in usual places, but not a rust bucket. No rear seats.
The Brake system was completely rebuilt with the original piston system when the engine was overhauled.
The fuel pump is going bad and cannot maintain prime.
The Vehicle has been in our family since my father in law purchased it in Boulder in 1972.
We would like her to go home, as she is a great candidate for restoration.

Asking $10k.

Great bones and complete. This would be an ideal project for some lucky person.

That’s a really good deal
Kind of a weird duck in terms of “normally attractive” years but that one has a lot going for it!

If my garage wasn’t full I would consider it the price is very good

In the ubiquitous bezel topic
Plenty of pictures of 40s leaving the factory with upside down bezels

And all those workers were fired the next day.

FYI, Richard says he hasn't had anyone calling or texting him. I'm surprised someone hasn't reached out yet!

Looks like it has the same dealer installed rollbar mine came with. Let's you run the long jump seats. I bet it was the same dealer mine came from. Cool 40!

possible "baja" dealer edition. my first 40 was one. i cant remember if all my chrome bumper/bezel was part of the package or another package or what was included...i'll have to find the writeup where i learned about those editions again

Looks like a pretty big lift if those are 33’s. Also the tub being cut for fender flares is kinda a bummer.

I'm surprised an original owner would actually sawzall a body.

That's about the most miles I have ever heard of for a 40. They're kind of brutal to do much highway cross country road trips. Especially if it was a trailer queen and then only driven around a ranch. I put a lot of miles on my '76 commuting from Evergreen to Boulder and Evergreen to Aurora, but most were commuting Kittredge to Lakewood. Still it only has 276k.

Do you think they actually cut the body or did they just install the flares? Not obvious from the photos.

damn, tough crowd. Anyhow, thanks for posting Matt. I've got my eyes on one in our neighborhood otherwise I'd be all over this. even if there is rust under the diamond plate it looks pretty dang clean.

Also FWIW didnt the earlier trucks only go to 99,999.9 miles? so the mileage is likely an estimate thats maybe off.

That's exactly right, I don't think they added that extra digit until around 1980 or so. Stephen McClung from Cool Cruisers told me that the quick way to distinguish if the odometer has rolled once or twice is by the writing on the dash knobs - they'll typically last well after 100k, but are pretty well worn off after 200k.

Good.

This is the kind of temptation I really don't need. @SaintAgatha make sure I don't try to buy this... :ROFLMAO:
