Howdy! In addition to a bunch of other trips, I’d love to find some folks to do the occasional 1-3 nighter motocamping trips with this year. After a long hiatus from riding GS bikes, I recently bought a baby GS (310) that I’m making a bit more off-road capable. I’m not looking to go fast, far, or ever ride freeways, but putting along local (I’m in Boulder County) front range dirt roads and summer high country dirt, maybe mixed with some photography and flyfishing sounds like a pretty good time.

Holler if you might be interested. Also, I’ll be doing some private lessons with Rawhyde this summer in the high country if anyone is interested.

I do a weeklong moto/camping ride every summer and would be open to new rides! Love to hear more about the Rawhyde course.

Haha, Paul, love that photo! As it stands, a buddy and I are planning a 3-4 day skills intensive with a private Rawhyde trainer in June. Their Colorado facility is somewhere in the high country between Breck and Salida - not exactly sure. We’re planning on a couple days on site to work on core skills, and then 2-3 days off site with a COBDR stint to get some real world use of the freshly honed skills. We may also. squeeze in a Southern California-based couple of skills days next month with them, TBD.

Both my buddy. (Micah) and I have ridden GS bikes extensively, but man, it’s been a long hiatus, so we’re both going to be polishing, dusting off, etc. in the spring. Knowing that you’re in Ned, feel free to DM me if you want to do any day rides that are local for us. Likewise for any 4x4 stuff.

I’m curious what you think about that 310 - they look like a lot of fun!
I’ve only had it a month now, and my comparison is older mid-size GS bikes (650, 700). So far, it feels very familiar but lighter. For what I’ll do with it, it has plenty of backroad power, and plenty of low end grunt for the dirt roads and trails I’ll ride. I just put a 50/50 Michelin Anakee tire set on it, and will be doing a little bit of a Rally Raid suspension upgrade to it. So far, it feels like a light, full-size thumper. Ask me again in eight months. :)

Very cool! I'm currently in the market for a new T700 but not having much luck due to the whole supply chain thing. My old (2003) trusty KLR650 is ready to be retired due too puffing smoke.....so I'm kinda in a weird position regarding a bike right now. Heck, I've been trying to pickup a Honda CRF250X for a trip/event/back of the camper bike for months now and can't find a new or used one!
Anyway, I may just redo the KLR motor for summer until bike supplies get back to normal. If thats the case, would there be any openings in the Rawhide course? Cost? Dates?
As for trips we've done the RimRocker to Moab several times, camping/riding 5-6 days and it's always a new adventure. But it would be cool to do other parts of the state as well.

I definitely want to join in this fun. I just put down a deposit to lock in a '22 Husky 701 but until it arrives I will be rocking my 2013 R1200GS. I love my GS but she is way too big for most of the trails in Colorado I would take my Land Cruiser on, so I want to give the lightweight ADV route a try to see if it addresses the pain points I experienced over the last few years.

In terms of training, I haven't tried Rawhyde (heard great things) but I have taken multiple classes from Dusty at West38Moto. They are awesome, and I highly recommend them.

FYI. Putting together our 4th MotoCampRide event for July 2022. Looking at portions of Colorado BDR with a surprise Utah side-trip adventure. Still 5-7 days, camping each night, self sufficient ride.

Will post updates and firm dates/locations for those interested.

Definitely interested assuming I can make the dates work. I downsized over the weekend from my GS to something more dirt worthy and snagged one of the last KTM 690's available in the state.

My July is potentially hectic, but I am very interested. FWIW, the first half or so looks a lot better than the latter half for me.

Two days ago I took delivery of a Honda 300 Rally, and got out on the 60º day before the bottom fell out of the weather. There were none of these in the state, so I found one in Wisconsin and had it shipped…

I've spent most of the winter looking for two bikes, T700 and a CRF250RX (prefer an older X) and have zero luck........so, I'll most likely be running my old trusty KLR. He's seen a lot of back country and getting a little tired but I suspect he has one or two trips left in him!

I really wanted one of those 300 Rallys but they might be even harder to find than a T7!

Im part of a 4 person crew doing the WABDR the first week in August (1st-5th). It will be a self-sufficient run, but if anyone is interested in joining let me know.

Don't they say that cockroaches and KLR's will be the only things that survive nuclear war?

Yeah, not easy to find the 300 Rally or T7, for sure. After striking out all over the west, I bought this one over the phone from a Honda powersports + equipment dealer in rural Wisconsin. Then I had Haulbikes.com pick it up for me and drop it at my house, which was about $800. Painful, but here we are…

Yep! They keep falling over but, keep getting back up and just keep going!
