I'm looking to put together a run of Red Cone, Radical Hill, Deer Creek, and Saints John the last weekend of July. Considering the popularity of Red Cone and Radical Hill, we'll probably head up to the trailhead of Red Cone or the southern end of Webster Pass and camp Friday night (7/30), with the hopes of hitting Red Cone early Saturday morning (8AM). If you don't want to camp Friday night, no worries, just plan to be at the Red Cone trailhead no later than 7:45AM.

After completing Red Cone and Radical Hill, we'll likely head over to Saints John, ultimately heading back down the mountain via North Fork (or Middle Fork) Swan River. At that point, you're welcome to camp along North/Middle Fork on Saturday night, or just head home.

Radical Hill still has some snow on the upper switchbacks, but will likely be clear all the way through by the end of the month.

Depending on how many people want to camp, I'll probably limit this run to 5-6 rigs due to campsite sizes. If we wind up with a large number of interested folks, we can always form a second group. Post up if you're able to come!

Attendees:
1. @bassguyry (Ryland)
2. @nate0331CO (Nate)
3. @Notyourmomslx450 (Andy)
4. @Camo80 (Kris)
5. @J1000 (Jimmy)
6. @On the RX (Adam)
7. @DomOfTheDead (Dom)

Interested:
1. @FunkyYota (Tyler)

Double check your maps regarding the north fork of Swan. As you are heading west to east it ends at the base of a cliff and doesn’t connect to the top. Middle fork is the connecting route. 👍

Interesting. I've run both Middle Fork and North Fork west to east (and east to west, which is the direction we'll be heading), and they both connect to Saints John (albeit at different points, circled in red below):

Very interesting. Last time I was on the north fork of the Swan River was back in the late ‘70s or early ‘80s so I need to go back for an update! Your map indicates that your marked trail is on the north fork for about a mile before turning south up Garibaldi Gulch towards Wise Mtn. and then turns back east to get to the top and Sts. John. Looking at my Trails Illustrated map dated 1982 and an even older quad map there is no trail from the north fork up Garibaldi Gulch shown. We used to explore that area a lot because we found gold in the streams near the ghost town of Rexford and never noticed the spur that is obviously there now. As can be seen on your map, the north fork continues northeast and goes several miles and through Rexford before coming to the dead end I mentioned. I’ve learned something and need to check it out. It will be fun to see this “new” connection and thanks for the clarification!

I'm in... if you think I'm capable. Not sure if my tires are big enough as I have never been on these trails

I’m interested pending this info. I think I snooped around some trails out this way around 15-17 years ago, but have never done the ones Ry listed.

If you're running 33s, you should be fine. You're lifted as well, correct?

I’m on 32 Duratracs (265/75/16) and the OME 2-3” lift. Open diffs. My power steering is, well … it’s not working very well at the moment. So hopefully there aren’t a lot of tricky back and forth lines haha. Otherwise I’ll start lifting weights now to beef up my arms.

32s with a lift should be fine. From what I can tell, there are only a few rough spots on Red Cone and Radical Hill (not including the super narrow shelf road on Radical Hill...lol), and I'm sure we can spot you through if you have any issues.
