That's a Texas-sized 10-4. Can confirm.

Question, I will be there next year but probably not do trails. But my kids will be out for the 25th and be using my 2 cars. I am a TLCA member but do my kids need to be members (as drivers), or just me since I own the cars?

Registered drivers should have their own TLCA membership according to our insurance through TLCA (although married couples are always treated as a single membership). If you're a passenger it doesn't matter.

This TLCA family membership loophole issue is something we need to answer definitively on the CM website. If you're an adult driving a vehicle at Cruise Moab, you need to be a TLCA member. The only way you can share a TLCA membership is if you are married to another member.

I'd love to see trail flags next year, so we can all see who is part of CM when passing people. Thought it may be a neat idea.

so for years my adult daughters have been registered drivers and the club and TLCA stated that was OK and part of the family membership. When did that change? They have been coming since 2005 as drivers and under my membership

It's a gray area, and we need to come to a definitive answer.
  • We've always been pretty loose in our definition of a family membership for Rising Sun, and that's been fine — we don't need to change that.
  • We do need to determine if we need to make sure that all registered drivers of vehicles at Cruise Moab are TLCA members. This is for a couple of reasons:
    1) TLCA insurance covers TLCA member drivers and their passengers. It's not clear if it covers adult drivers in other vehicles who have a relative in a different truck who is a TLCA member. We'll need to get clarification on this from the insurance company.
    2) We're a TLCA sanctioned event. We enforce the TLCA membership requirement. If we limit the number of vehicles at CM to XXX, the expectation is that XXX people are TLCA members. This is a tangible benefit to TLCA, since many people join/renew just to attend CM. If we have a family loophole, we're reducing our support of TLCA.
Just curious: if your adult daughters enjoy wheeling enough to come to Cruise Moab with their own trucks, don't they want to be members of TLCA?

Short answer is No. Not a lot of value to them. They dont care for the magazine. They do this to spend time with me and wheel which we do many times over the summer. We have even gone to Moab outside of CM and could do that again. I joined TLCA because of my love for Land Cruisers. They have Land Cruisers because I got them for them. The only reason for them to have their own membership is to go to CM. They always participate; volunteer and help the raffles, sell stuff and one of them always guns for me when they are there. Rachel was even on the CM Committee one year. They also go to CM because it is free to them as I pay. Otherwise they would just want to go to Moab another time together. So if this changes, that is just more for me to pay or a family trip to Moab outside of CM. Remember, you asked the question and I wanted to provide an honest answer.

Bottom Line is they go to CM to be with me and likely wouldn't go on their own.

They do really enjoy the Rising Sun Crowd and like going on club runs. CM is the only one that requires a TLCA membership to be on.

Please let me know well ahead of time if this changes. The daughters of Romer have been going to CM since 2005 and only missed a couple of years

For the record I do read the magazine and am a happy supporter of the TLCA and have been since 2003.

Would it make sense to bundle a TLCA membership with Cruise Moab registration fees? That way existing members can just renew at the same time they register, and newcomers get auto registered for TLCA when they register their vehicle. It still doesn't totally solve the family issue, but it could simply registration overall.

I don't want anyone to take my post (in a 2 dimensional medium) that I am not a big supporter of the TLCA. Both Daughters really enjoy CM. If they want to go to 2022 CM, and we decide they need a membership, then I will pay for that. I did ask the question when they were in their 20's (10 years ago) and was told they were good as its a family membership. I do see that in the TLCA Bylaws, but way down at the bottom it does say dependents

Both daughters really enjoy this club and its members. They have grown up in this club. Many of you have watched them grow the last 17 years. and I don't want anyone to take this negatively. The club and CM have all been a very positive experience starting in their teens to now in their 30's. Geez I am old

It's a possibility. Rubithon does this.

However, in all honesty, we are trying to create less work for the CM committee these days, not more. Collecting dues for TLCA, giving them a report, paying them the $$, and making sure we're in alignment on every single person is a lot more work than just asking them to join/renew at TLCA.org. Being on the CM committee is a volunteer gig, and the work/fun ratio is already out of balance.

We are talking about a $35/ year membership right? We all spend Thousands a year on gas, maintenance and mods.... Are we are talking about $35 per driver?

There is also a $25 option. But honestly, I understand the desire to save money that you don't have to spend, especially if you haven't been required to spend it in the past.

We'll figure it out and let you know — but this might not happen until closer to the event.
