That was awesome! big props to everyone who came out, we had a huge group and everyone still seemed to have a great time. The periodic socializing after each ice climb was a definite highlight, as long as your expectations are the run will be relaxed and slow then you're sure to not be disappointed. Was great to get a chance to reconnect with a few folks throughout the day, masks and all, so what, totally worth it.

And I've been the only 100 on a run before, also the only 80, only 40, definitely the only GX470... but I didn't expect to be the only 60. I think I'm moving up in the world! We had a great time, my son Gavin did all the driving and did great, a few adventures in clutch hill starts but that's all part of the journey. thanks again Scott for organizing.

Jeff, I just spent 10 minutes trying to figure this out. My best guesses:
  • the photos are very large (from a digital SLR camera) and the forum won't display them inline for this reason
  • the photos were uploaded in an unusual way and "thumbnails" didn't get created. Not sure why this would be, but clearly something is amiss.
@DomOfTheDead -- how did you upload the photos?
Must be due to file size. Nikon d5300 6000x4000 24.0m file size transferred to windows 8.1.

Scott,

Wanted to say thanks again for organizing and hosting this wonderful run!

Jackson was kind enough to give me a ride for the run ( I always love riding along for this run to hang out with everyone and take pics). Alex was kind enough to give me a ride for the rest of the trip after Jackson took off. I'm always in the front of the group taking pics. Was fun hanging back wit Alex, Brian Jimmy and Mike. It felt really good to be out on the trail hanging out with every one, even if we do need more snow.

Thanks again Scott.

Will post more pics as I go through them.

I still have someone's Baofeng Ham radio. They lent to me after the drivers meeting for Frankie to use.

Wyatt and I had a blast, all we broke was a shock and that's not too bad for the LandBeaters maiden voyage

we are totally joining up

Glad we were able to pull that shock easily enough. I was thinking that maybe you might have caught the shock with your chains possibly.

CHAINS! Ha ha! Whether you had 'em, wish you had 'em, or think they ruin the fun, I'm sure that was the word of the day (Other than OHS#!T)

Besides CM this was my first trail run with you guys and it did not disappoint. Awesome to meet so many great folks and watch y'all hammer your rigs around. Shout out to @LandBeater for putting his 80 to the test. Bummer about that shock. So weird. Stoked that between @FJCDan and Wyatt you were able to get rollin' again🤙

Big thank you to @JadeRunner for organizing, burritoing and picking the ideal day! Sorry to hear about the run in with the Jeep on the way down. No bueno man. Thanks to @Hulk, @bassguyry and others for herding the masses on that sketchy trail. Also thanks to @On the RX for the summit beta and great photo at the top (y)

Didn't get a ton of great pics but here are a few that turned out OK. Best ones were toward the end with @Lefty and @FunkyYota 🙌

Curious about ideal tire pressure in snow conditions like we experienced during this run.

I aired down to 18 and in retrospect felt that was too high. What was everyone else in the non chain crowd running at?

Depends, but I've aired down to 10-12 in snow before.

I air down to about 13-14PSI in the snow, but I have a pretty heavy rig too. With a lighter rig, you could probably get away with 10-12PSI, as @DanTheMan noted above. Some will even run down to 8PSI, but that's way too low for my taste.

Last year I aired down to 8 on my km3s on my 3rd gen 4runner. They are load e rated and have very stiff sidewalls. They did great at that psi. I went down to 15 for this year with chains on the rear. I think next time I will keep the ones with chains aired around 25psi and keep the front without chains at 10 to 15. The chains were tight at road pressure but pretty loose at 15 psi.

I think that might've been my biggest mistake in sizing my chains - I had them at road pressure (38-39PSI) when I cut them down, so they were super loose when I went to put them on at the trailhead. I'll be resizing them this weekend, and your advice of taking off the spare to cut the chains to length will be super helpful!

I went down to 12psi on my 100 with 33s and at the end of the day they were down to 10psi. It was working for me I'm going to aim for that pressure again on snow and ice.

I was actually worried about pressure dropping as they cooled, so I only went down to 20 in the parking lot. Didn't check what they were when we aired up though. Also 100 series (heavier than Jimmy) on 33s. I usually go down to about 14-16 for summer wheeling and haven't pushed it much further than that due to the weight of the 100. Now on a 4runner or Taco with MT...

I had the exact same psi when I aired up from when I aired down. I was surprised to see that.

I started at 12 psi and went down to 9, and I have load range C super swampers. But when your on icy hill climbs nothing but speed works as some of you found out on that first hill climb.

I was running 14-15 up front and 18-20 rear on 305 stt/pro(33x12.5) with v bar chains in the rear. The chains let me creep through everything but made a lot of noise @ 20psi and took a lot of the fun out of it.
